Race Evaluation

HVO James Baird State Park: Green

cmorse

1. More or less straight and over, swinging S to avoid last bit of cliffs. Retrospect going through registration in the open would have been a good move.
2. +00:10Pretty much straight. Crossed stonewall just south of circle and corrected
3. +00:15S around hill and green, then ended right above control, but had to maneuver N to get down to bottom cliff.
4. Straight to road, R on trail beyond, cut corner thru indistinct marsh- wet but clean - angles in from trail between hills. Got on Tony's tail in here.
5. +00:05Up hill below 9 to get a visual then mostly straight, hesitated briefly in reentrant as I didn't immediately see flag up a bit higher than visualized
6. +00:10Slightly L of line crossing brook below rocks and cliffs, but had to climb a couple lines to get back up to flag. Index contour hiding under circle so didn't seem as steep as it was
7. Straight, no issues but felt slow here, hip starting to hurt, lost sight of Tony. Oh well..
8. Straight, no issues
9. Sgtaight again, passing Janet who was a little lower down
10. L of line, up small reentrant to cross trails near junction, E of small marsh and in..
11. +01:10SW to trail. Then R on road down to jeep trail to just past big cliff 150m N of flag. Hill seemed hella lot bigger in person. Got up to the right height but cliff obscured by rootstock, drifted above it then noticed wall down low, turned around and in from S
12. +00:45A bit S of line to pick kindest climb up among cliffs and such wound up S of circle higher up, wrong reentrant corrected and headed downhill
13. Straight down spur, minor weaving to avoid deadfall
14. Dropped to trail briefly, then across S of circle below small hill, saw Peter leaving so easy to key right in.
15. Gained some ground on PG here.
16. Road past hill then across to junction, PG about 30m in front.
F. Had closed the gap to final control but conceded the chute to Peter and didn't push it down the hill
