Race Evaluation

WCOC Ansonia: Red

PBricker

1. Straight
2. To open area, but didn't see the indistinct trail, so headed over the knoll. Heard Clint say there was an unmapped trail, so it didn't bother me when I came to it, and took it for a little ways.
3. Right of line to the stream to minimize rocky ground. The along the stream to the building at the dam, then came in at the reentrant to the left and hopped over.
4. +11:00Embarassing. Plan was to follow the stream, cut up to the trail and attack from the open area. But when the trail was going the wrong way (and I had just seen there were unmapped trails) I headed in the general direction of the circle and started wandering around the boulders. A few times I thought I had relocated on a distinct pattern of boulders - bad idea. Finally headed south and relocated on the very open area I originally meant to attack from.
5. +06:00More embarassment. Somehow, though I went over the knoll halfway there, I ended up right and started checking many boulders (some too small). I think I briefly did a 180, because I ended up going further right, rather than coming back closer to the bag. Finally figured out which way it had to be and hit the stone wall north of the boulder.
6. North to the trail, attacked from the junction. Passed George (going to 7?)
7. Straight, letting line of boulders lead me there.
8. +01:30Was warned this might be higher or lower in the reentrant than on the map. When I got to the reentrant, no flag. I first checked a bit lower, but the trail was visible, so I headed the other way and found it.
9. +00:20To the bend in the trail, then somehow went right by the boulder 10 meters and saw the flag when I turned around.
10. A little hesitation because second stream crossing was covered by my circle.
11. Walking up the hill. Went up the reentrant left of line. Some hesitation checking boulders on the way for flags.
12. Hit the trail before the big marsh left of where I wanted, so went around it to the left, along some small marshes, up the broad rentrant, across the trail and right to it.
13. Using the open areas.
14. Along left side of marsh, then down the rentrant, and angled up the hill. Greener than mapped, so not very fast.
15.
