1. | Left the trail a bit early and had to climb over some downed trees along the stone wall.
2. | Very slow going through marsh, making sure to keep my feet dry. A bit tentative approaching the control going over a line of little knolls, as I thought it was one knoll sooner than it was.
3. | Got drawn off to a flag on a boulder too soon, but then I knew that boulder (unlike a lot of others!) would be on the map, and easy from there.
4. | +02:00 | Ran into a flooded area on the way to the trail which resulted in a lengthy detour. Then, approaching the circle, I somehow veered south and checked out two knolls, and stood around, before heading to the right knoll.
5. | Left the trail at the small wet area. Spike.
6. | To the trail (right of line), up the trail to the two little knolls at the bend, then right on line diagonally across the reentrant and up the spur.
7. | Being careful, in the detailed terrain, to stay right on line. Spike.
8. | Went due west to the trail, which should have kept me north of the laurel, but the map's changed and I had no choice but to plow through 50 meters of medium-dark green. Then, trail to the three boulders. Spike. Saw some walkers here, only people I ever saw on the course.
9. | +00:30 | Back to the trail, but wasn't sure where I was and so decided to just go all the way to the trail junction and came in due east from there. Vegetation was awful.
10. | Went due SE to the main trail. (Didn't want to go back the way I had come!) Not bad. Ran hard down the trail, and could see the flag right as I left the trail.
11. | Cross the road, along the edge of the open area, and then picked up the indistinct trail going right by the flag. Lost the trail, but it didn't matter as I could see the knoll the boulders were on.
F. | One final thrashing through the pines. |
