Greenbelt Training: B1

Nadim

1. +00:20This was the second loop. Having waited for Ted (who was taking time to check features at #10), we started together again. I got too high and rather confused for such a short leg.
2. +00:15Straightish, getting near the road then over more crappy downfall than I encountered the first time. I conciously kept right a bit since last time I was left. I hit an east/west ditch left again and used that to correct to the ditch pair.
3. Straightish. I mis-counted ditches or there was an extra one. I should have just used the road. It was slow going in the downfall and getting around the gullies. Finally, I did use the road to round the gullies and backdoor the control.
4. Up the road to the intersection then down the white woods like before.
5. Straightish but I got pushed right by the mountain laurel. I corrected crossing the campground near the toilets then down the reentrant to the junction.
6. I went straightish reasoning that this was training and I should practice reading my way across. Eventually I did use portions of the upper Blueberry trail. I attacked of the trail junction east of the control. I knew what to look for this time so I wasted no time decided if it was really a ditch or not.
7. +00:30Straight over. I saw Ted hunting for his pit. We exchanged details on what to look for since the vegetation was off. I dropped too low then climbed back and hit it.
8. Straightish to the Perimeter Trail. I was reading the map too long past the junction and overshot where I wanted to leave it. I caught a glimpse of Ted. I came up the big reentrant a bit to get back on track. Going up hill I was unsure where I was and tired but I hit the ruin and went around the downfall on the high side to the ditch. It was more of a reentrant than a ditch.
9. Down to the stream junction. Another glimpse of Ted? Up from there to the shallow reentrant.
10. Down to the trail as before and definately see Ted below on the trail--I had a better line but he still was ahead. I crossed the bridge then went up before crossing the stream. I started to go straight across the wet ditches but it was crappy looking so I went back down to the stream and to the bend. I went up from there. There was extra stuff here. I wanted to make sure I'd gone high enough and think I did. The ditch seemed to become a reentrant.
F. Fast down to the stream, there's Ted again, already across and running to the finish. Over a bit before crossing at a nice almost ramp angled to my direction. In straight to the finish a bit behind Ted.
