Race Evaluation

Ontario Orienteering Championships: Course 6 Middle

boyle

1. Once again I destroyed my race in the first leg. This time I blame the lack of reading glasses. Just missing the target circle I was distracted by the flagged trail for the novice course. Eventually I would notice that I wasn't seeking a major trail but a long connected cliff.
2. Because I assisted w/ vetting, I unofficially self timed. After an hour of running in the woods was I worn out or warmed up? I'd even left my pack on my back.

8.
9. I'd seen the leg earlier in the day so it's no surprise that it's my best.
10. I ran down the double-rutted road that I'd failed to find during vetting.
11.
12. I'd already visualized this section of the map from last year's COCs.
13. I messed up trail and drifted west nearly 100m.
14. I tried a bearing-only run on this 600m leg but drifted east this time.
F. Interestingly, my AP rating was the same horrible number on the same map and distance last year.
