1. around on trails
2. straight
3. followed trail to the R of line

5. +02:00Planned to contour to the stony ground N of the control. Found stones and headed S (up) but did not find the control. Relocated off of trail to S, finding myself considerably short and in need of continuing 100m farther on the trail.
6. R of the line, under big cliffs. Control's saddle was beyond the first saddle that I came to.
7. +15:00SW to track, and down to complex junction, where I got confused and delayed, possibly by a new trail. Located myself and headed on a bearing for the control, and immediately the features did not match up, but I trusted that the small trail would resolve the problem and continued. Hit a small trail too soon. Pace count ran out and I followed trails back to the complex junction. At this point I noticed that the scale was 1:15,000 which explained my difficulty on #5 and some minor problems at all the other controls. Attacked 7 again, carefully identifying a boulder cluster, knoll, ledge, ledge, mapped trail, and depression containing the control.
8. followed trails to R of line
9. Attacking from trail bend SE of control, couldn't get the ledges near the trail to match the map. Glad the control was visible from a distance.
10. around to L on trails
11. +02:00After crossing the power lines, I didn't read the contours in relation to my chosen route, and got stuck on the wide spur to S of the long reentrant. As my pace count grew I noticed the spur pulling me too far S and crossed the reentrant, finding the control fairly easily.
12. +01:30Back along familiar trails. Misread the clue sheet and thought the control was going to be at the top of the southern cliff. The circle misled me by being closer to that cliff.
13. Followed the track for a while to get a good attack point, but had a hard time matching ledges to map. Took a hint from contours and struck N toward the control. Saw Jim Pachetto coming around a hill, and guessed his course shared the control I was heading for, which provided some mental assurance.

F. Thanks to Ian Smith for a true Norwottuck O-course with plenty of water right where I needed it.
