Race Evaluation

QOC - Great Falls, MD: Brown

donkst's comments - by leg

1. Route is drawn on Routegadget at http://s91276857.onlinehome.us/gadget/cgi-bin/reitti.pl?act=map&width=980&height=550&id=28&kieli= Note, routegadget has a mistake. I obviously didn't go through the depressions leaving # 3, but rather around them, slightly to the E. Back to # 1--just kept the reentrant on my right and went in on a bearing.
2. A bit high, but wanted to use the pits to guide me in. Probably should have stayed lower.
3. Generally straight.
4. Off the pit just to the N.
5. Trail for a while, then decided cross country was the best route. Decided to try to see number 7 on the way since I knew it would be a tricky control on the way back. I succeeded. I saw it while passing. Final approach was off the boulders 200 meters N.
6. Straight. Could see the bag from control 5.
7. Despite seeing 7 earlier, I still bobbled this a bit. A pace count saved me when I stopped on count and looked back up the reentrant. A tricky area.
8. Straight.
9. A fairly solid run. I was pretty happy with it. A few bobbles, but nothing too terrible.
