| 1. | It was colder than I expected and I was a little worried about having enough clothes on. I didn't wear any gloves. I started 8 minutes behind Dave Onkst. Straight over the hill. A little hesitant approaching the control. | |
| 2. | Time Lost: 00:08 | I did not take the trail. instead I stayed right of the line. I don't know why I didn't take the trail.After crossing the stream/trail. I just counted reentrants. Initially I thought I was looking for the reentrant but when I got close I realized it was the rootstock. I stopped at the first root stock which I just now realized was partially hidden by the control circle on the map which is why I couldn't find it. As I was approaching the control. Dave Onkst was coming from the other direction back to it. |

| 6. | Decided to take the trail through the green so angled over to it. Upon closer examination the map doesn't show the trail going through the green but it really does. Ran up trail a little bit then countoured to control. | |

| 11. | Time Lost: 00:20 | Decided to take a higher route. Climbed initially out of control 10, across first big reentrant, climbed again, across 2nd big reentrant and contoured around to control. Decided at last second to have my hammer gel but hadn't prepared ahead of time as I was running. I pulled out my gel and my whistle (also in the pocket), went flying. Took me a few seconds to get my whistle back into my pocket. only had one mouthful of gel. Water jugs weren't open and I couldn't get them open. They weren't the twist off type but had the ring seal on them. I tried one jug but couldn't get it and finally had to open the other one I was able to get. |
| 12. | Time Lost: 01:30 | Down the hill by control 19. Up trail. I stayed on trail to long and should have stayed lower. I climbed some but then cut off trail before rocks. Stumbled over to control area without much confidence. Hit the spur way high and had to drop down. |

| 15. | Ran over across stream and started up the spur. I hit the indistinct trail and followed that almost all the way to the control which confused the heck out of me. Basically I was on an umapped trail but because I was confused I didn't gain any advantage. It was also all uphill so had to walk a lot anyway. | |

| 17. | Time Lost: 03:00 | Decided to take the traod and do the extra climb. I was getting tired and my feet were starting to drag so I wanted to get out of the vegetation. Hit the road and ran hard but didn't gain any on the kid in front of me. Ran the road to about 100m from the parking area and cut in. Then I screwed up. There was a control in the tiny reentrant just south of the rootstocks. I knew it wasn't mine so ignored it but ran on. I didn't see the reentrant on the map so misjudged the reentrant I was looking for. I ran back to the wrong reentrant to check again. Not mine as I knew it wouldn't be. Then just kept going until I got to the control. |
