Race Evaluation

NEOC Spring Rock Festival and Intercollegiates: Green X 2

tonyf

1. On line to the trail, then off the trail at the form-line knoll. Not moving too fast; early-on.
2. Didn't hit the trail until after the little green, but woods were fast anyway. Left trail at the right-left jog, which didn't look quite right but worked.
3. Leftish past boulder with stony ground rather far left, so corrected.
4. +01:00Over hilltop, but then apparently drifted right of line, ending up at big/small boulder combination. Quick recovery there but evidently lost a minute. Obviously didn't do a good job of reading detail on the way.
5. +01:30Hard time getting through the green. Tried over the cliffy spur but backed out, then south a bit on a pseudo-trail which deadended, so backed up again. Fianlly wiggled this way and that throught he thinner areas to reach trail. Left trail at double form-line knolls and around west tip of green patch. Others were faster through green; I probably should have just bashed as straight as possible instead of looking for passageways.
6. To left around end of cliff.
7. Not sure how I got there!
8. To left of line climbing up left of big knoll and to left around green. Then easy into control. Extra climb but easy running. Apparently as good as lower route.
9. Climbed slightly right of line past gray knoll with red control. Then lovely downhill cruise. Unfortunately it was so lovely I drifted right and lower than needed and hit road at wall and trickle, so up road until cut through woods to trail. Didn't get a time, but overall from 8 to 10 looks good.
10. Fizzled around in marsh a bit too much and was a bit late hitting trail just before crossing.
11. Tried to run fast down the trail and cut straight through before junction and down the hill. Too Many crossways blowdowns on the downhill meant some searching for route, but probably still faster than going around.
12. Not quite as fast as I could along road and across field to the control I'd seen when warming up earlier, thinking of the climb ahead.
13. Jogged up the hill, slowly. Off to right by the knolls; too slow looking all around for the control.
14. +00:30Came down hill much too left, left of building, and chose to run through the "pond".
F. Stayed on the grass behind the benches instead of in the sand. Don't suppose it made much difference.
