Race Evaluation

U.S. Night Championships: Blue

Tundra/Desert's comments - by leg

1. Did not plan ahead
Did not check features en route
Took a chance
Underrated difficulty
Read map too late
Bad map reading
Time Lost: 01:40
Bad map reading. Did not see the fact that the reentrant was off the main one (as if we hadn't LIVED in the damn reentrant for a few weeks...)
2. Bad map reading
Confused parallel features
Time Lost: 03:30
Was too low. Should have figured that out. Did a loopy-loop along the edges of the major reentrant, down and up.

5. Bad map reading
Bad compass work
Time Lost: 02:20
Went into a reentrant pointing N, instead of NE. Figured it out at around the edge of the map.
6. Bad route choice
Time Lost: 01:00
When in doubt, go straight. But when in doubt, can't run squat, can't read no damn map, and it's steep like hell, then what we do?
7. Bad compass work
Bad distance judgement
Time Lost: 01:30
Hit the little trail in advance of the major road; thought it WAS the major road. Got off the trail and ended up running parallel to the road. Wished Joe B well at the end of the leg.

9. Confused parallel features
Bad distance judgement
Time Lost: 02:00
Checked out the knoll SE of the one. Had trouble rotating myself afterwards.
10. Bad route choice
Time Lost: 03:00
The boundary road all the way around would have been sooooo sweet. Only took it partway, from the square fence on in. Eric flew by (into 10) as I was leaving 10.
