Race Evaluation

BAOC (UK) Ash Ranges: Brown

AngusL

1. Up the range, over the top and the control was sitting right there.
2. Across the track, up the re-entrant, then on a bearing to the control. Slower through the heather.
3. Quick straight to about 5m away.
4. Very happy with the navigation and approach: along the path and up the re-entrant exactly as I'd expected.
5. Slightly too far south, but no major issue.
6. +01:00Took a wrong turn on leaving the range, and ended up drawn to another control about 100m away.
7. Fine on the approach; ended up too low by about 5m.
8. Good. Across the range, through the woods, fence and bearing in to 5m away.
9. +01:00Direct route possibly not the easiest or fastest, but I got there eventually.
10. Steady before the final descent, cross-checking my line against the form lines behind me.
11. Fast out of #10, but slower contouring across - starting to feel the hear.
12. Good route: bearing lined up an obvious track through the gorse and straight to the control.
13. Slower through heather, then onto tracks before the final approach. Despite revisiting it, it felt completely different.
14. Trusted my bearing and it paid off: nailed!
15. Tiring again, so walked up the re-entrant and nailed it.
16. +01:00North onto the tracks through the plantation, down the track and in. Ended up at the southern/downhill end of the gulley/trench and lost time moving 20m up it.
17. Fine. Tiring so took my time to concentrate, but got it.
18. Good approach across the range and along the earth bank.
19. +00:30Stopped a little early on the way in, but used the form to the north to get there.
20. No problem, apart from stopping at the control on the spur about 100m short of the actual control.
21. +00:30Under-estimated the distance (forgot the distance in the circles) so stopped short again.
22. Tired, and an unnecessary climb up to this one at the end!
