1. Ran too fast
Bad distance judgement
Lacked concentration
+03:00
Down trail, cut into ditch, green disorients me. I'm not really thinking yet or pacing. I over run the correct spur by about 100 meters. A very poor beginning.
2. Bad compass work
Confused parallel features
+06:30
To trail intersection and then was planning to funnel into stream intersection, but poor compass work allowed me to drift SE and make a major parallel error. Read the ditch SW of correct stream as proper course. Had to run back and forth on trail E of the cotnrol to figure out where I was and then went in to control from trail intersection. A very lousy start.
3. Did not like map
Frustrated
Down to trail intersection and down to 1st major gully S of trail about 150 meters from trail intersection. Followed gully down and went up hilltop just NW of control. Hit what I thought was the correct area dead on, but didn't see the bag. I run S muttering to myself in Peter Gargin fashion. Finally bail out to the road and reoriented from Belfast Rd. and jog in. Finally see bag in the green. Very upset about this control because I was within 15 meters of the bag, 15 meters S of it, but lack of green on the old map and the newly cut gully S of the control is poorly represented on the map. Although I questioned John about the bag's placement when I finished, I discovered it was in the correct place when I went back out to pick up the bags after the meet. Sorry, John. Overall, a VERY FRUSTRATING leg because I ran it almost perfectly and then I missed out because of old map problems. UGGGHHHHH!!!!
4. Confused parallel features

Well, in my rush to get out on the course at the last minute, I forgot to check the master map for trail corrections. Needless to say, this caused problems. Took the trail S along the stream and thought I had the right reentrant. Turns out I was one too far N. Corrected by going S once I saw the trail in the distance.
5. Did not like map
Bad compass work
+06:00
Down trail to bend in trail/reentrant and then in on a bearing. Drifted too far right. Had to bail out to unmarked trail and go East tor trail intersection and then in from there. Map seems very "iffy" in this area. There seem to be several more reentrants along the short ridge area near the control.
6. Finally a good leg, and the most challenging so far, so something's finally going right. Straight N to main trail and around to trail stream intersection. Cut in just before intersection and followed left side of fork up to the control.
7. Bad route choice
Underrated difficulty
+01:30
Bad route choice. Just wanted to funnel into major trail bend NW of control. Should have just followed the stream down to the trial intersection and gone on up. But stuck with the 1st choice and didn't know where I'd ended up on the trail. Went in one hilltop too far W and quickly corrected error.
8. Stayed to SE of major reentrant and down to trial. Cut in a 1st slight bend on trail and went straight in. No really problems, just a bit cautious on all of the rocks.
9. Up through dry pond bed just SE of control and then off of the NW corner of pond bed. Could see the bag from there. Still cautious with the rocks.
10. Up to trial intersection and up first spur to the N of trail and then straight on in. No problems.
11. Did not like map
Bad map reading
Confused parallel features
Bad distance judgement
+05:00
Straight to loop in trail just SW of control and in on a bearing. Lack of pace count and extra green confuse me. I pulled up one ditch too short and started hunting around. Then started following spur down to the NW, when I saw the road and the open area just N of the control I realized what I'd done and recorrected.
12. Tired
Stayed high and went SE around the major reentrant. Getting tired.

Another trail problem. If I'd read the master map before hand I would have realized that I wouldn't have found the mapped trail. Consequently wasn't quite sure where I was on the main EW trial when I got to it and started running E and saw the road. Corrected and went W to trail intersection and then headed to the cairn about 150 meters N of control and then in from there. If I hadn't seen the water bottles, I would have passed right by. Bag was a bit faded and tough to see.
14. Found the unmapped trail that was headed SW to the main N/S trail. When I hit the main trail I headed S to the next intersection and then just went up the E trail until I saw the saddle from a distance and then angled up. No problems.
15. Straight E to the trail bend and then down to small ditch just E of trail, at the spot on the map marked "OM," then straight on up to spur. Walked past it about 15 meters and then turned around and saw it.
F. NW to trail and in.
