Race Evaluation

BAOC (UK) Hankley Common: Brown

AngusL

1. Route south east to avoid dropping off the ridge. Good attack point, straight in.
2.
3.
4. Came too far south to avoid the lake. Heavy rain had probably raised the water level in the marsh which forced the error.
5. Steep climb up to #5 probably slowed the pace. Control slightly further than the track than expected.
6. Picked up Don dropping down to #6.
7. Passed Don at #7, leaving up the re-entrant rather than returning to the track.
8. Spiked
9. Very slight hesitation, forgetting that the control was on the vegetation boundary.
10. Spiked
11. Spiked
12. Slow out of #11 up the hill, choosing a route to #12 and waiting to get a view from the top. Arrived sooner than expected in the area and this threw me for the final approach, heading up too early.
13. Slightly too far north.
14. Straight through the heather, probably slower than the track. Final approach ended up the wrong side of a track which slowed me up. Saw Don near the control.
15. Track. Nailed it.
16. Spiked.
17. Too far north, off by about 25m.
18. Spiked
19. Vegetation poorly mapped. Stopped a thicket too early.
20. Wrong angle, of attack which is disappointing as I nailed the same control and angle back in December. Don passed me…
21. Led in by Don.
22. Overtook Don and nailed the final approach angle.
23. Dropped a little too early.
24. Through the marsh was slower rather than round the track.
F. Final sprint in.
