City Strides node hunting in western Springfield Township. Completed 5 streets for CS purposes*, while walking only two streets, because one straddles a township line, and the other crosses two township lines. :-) Near 50, breezy, and cloudy, though it had been sunny earlier in the day (and cleared up again after we got home). Glen ran for some of it and went a bit farther. I'll catch up later.

On Trolley Bridge Road, we could see where the trolley tracks used to cross this road, but couldn't tell where a bridge might have been. The Liberty Bell trolley ran between Norristown and Allentown, from 1912 to 1951.

While it's not orienteering, the effort to plan a route and then execute it probably uses some of the same brain cells that orienteering does.

*Actually six, but a map correction to OSM is required to get credit for Old Bethlehem Pike. There's a section of Old Bethlehem ROAD in the same township that CS thinks we need to get.

Easy walk today, low 70s and sunny.

Explored the Liberty Trolley Trail in Coopersburg. Not very long but probably convenient for the residents to not have to walk on sidewalks all the time. This right-of-way was once part of Lehigh Valley trolley service between Allentown and Philadelphia (or at least Norristown).

"Advanced sprint" course on Norristown Farm Park map, organized by Mark and Mary Frank. 3.4 km, 70m climb nominal. 1:10000 / 3m map, and ~40F and overcast when we started; the earlier rain showers and drizzle had stopped.

Some others were doing multiple courses, but this was enough for me given I haven't been training much these past few weeks. And multiple courses would have meant even more crossings of the muddy corn fields....

Everything is muddy now. :-)

Orienteering race 30:03 [5] *** 3.05 km (9:51 / km) +30m 9:23 / km
spiked:14/14c shoes: Trail NB 706 9D # 1

Stage 1 sprint at Norristown S.H. No errors finding controls; perhaps could have been faster on some of the execution/decision-making. Fun course by Clem! I finished 4th (female), 2 min. behind Sandy Ahlswede (and 10 behind Angelica...).

80's, sunny & humid.

Orienteering race 43:19 [4] *** 2.92 km (14:50 / km) +40m 13:53 / km
spiked:13/14c shoes: Trail NB 706 9D # 1

Stage 2 sprint. Navigational mistake on # 5 (1st control in the woods) probably cost me about 5 minutes. Woods were hard to read, and when I hit the trail by the stream I went the wrong way and had to double back ~ 120 m. Otherwise I did fine. 3rd female, but a good 15 min. behind Allison and Dasha!

Hot (80's, sunny & humid), and I was tired from the first one, so I didn't move as fast, esp. in the woods.

AOWN--an unusual one...I could see a rhea in a fenced area across the Stony Creek (which edged the woods)! (The Elmwood Park zoo of Norristown is there.)
