Lower Leg, Shin Splints

2006-03-01 - 2006-03-09

severity grade: 2

My shins are so sore that they're actually painful to the touch. Tom and I think it's a combination of soft tissue bruising from all that Florida attack shrubbery, and some muscle soreness caused by sheer pounding. I was noticing during the spring Friday that I was having trouble controlling my "foot fall" -- using that front-of-the-shin muscle to lift the toe. That was probably a hangover from the previous weekend's 13.1 miles on roads. We surmise that that weakened muscle led to the feet not absorbing shock as well, causing shock to instead be taken by inner shin. Thus, ouchiness otherwise known as shin splints.

This is going to be a continual problem for me if I don't stretch and strengthen the muscles in the lower leg.
