Patellofemoral tendonitis. Had this before when I was younger but was really heard to get rid of this time. Solving it required a lot of leg strength (single leg squats), quite serious quad stretching and foam rollering. Managed it for a bit with tape to begin with. Helpful in getting over the last bit was holding my legs horizontal while sitting, focussing on strength in the very last bit of leg extension when the knee is already almost at its limit.
