severity grade: 2
During Western States 100 training camp in Auburn, while running middle 32 miles of the WS100. Strained calf at mile 8. Stopped, massaged, no dice. Walked for a bit, hurt like hell. Realized running downhill didn't hurt, and hiking uphill didn't hurt, so ran the last 26 miles with the strain like an idiot. Didn't get worse, luckily, but the next 3 weeks were zero running.
Resumed normal training by June 17th.
Massage and low level laser therapy from Dr. Wells/WellSport helped.
Before this happened, I had felt a twinge 2 weeks prior. I should have taken a week or two off from running until it fully healed. Instead, i made it worse. The injury happened 8 miles into the run, at "dusty corner" aid station on the WS100 course.
