The right knee started to hurt during the second sprint at Como. I am nursing ITBS stemming from the Six Hour Rogaine. I occasionally ITBS after long meets earlier this Spring, but after I started to train for O, the problem went away. I did not have a reoccurrance until hour 3 of the rogaine. Hour 2 was slight pain. By hour 4 the downhills were painfull and I was limping on them. By hour 5 I could not run very much for all the pain. And I could barely walk down the stairs the day after the rogaine.
I have been resting a bit and running some. The pain seems to flare up when I run longer and faster.
I have reduced my training and have begun an icing and Ibuprofen regimen. Hopefully I will not have trouble in the upcoming o' meets.
I am considering ordering a Pattstrap. Perhaps that will help.
Pattstrap did nothing.
I am not sure what the problem is. The orthopedist ordered an MRI and found no problems with the right knee. He advised to take up cross training so I bought a bike and began commuting to work. This seems to have helped. I can train without aggravating the knee and when it does get a little tweaked from orienteering, it seems to help me to recover faster. Whenever it does hurt a little I stop the activity and give the knee repeated ice baths. I am calling the injury "recovered", but really I am just managing the symptoms better.
