L Foot, Fracture

2018-07-12 – 2019-04-15

Grade: 4

Update Nov 2018. My fifth metatarsal is officially a "Nonunion". Meaning it is still broken and has stopped healing. Next step is trying out a bone stimulator. Not sure if this will work. Doctor is 50-50 about it. Sales rep says 80% success rate. I will wear this for 2 months and have my next appt in Mid Jan.
I was given clearance to run again after about 18 months of injuries. Now the hard part, getting strength back and losing weight

After spending 8 months recovery time on an lower quad injury, I felt pretty good and was moving fast on a trail during a meet. The trails are hard packed now and the side of my foot hit a root and I heard the snap. Hopefully it is only 8 weeks before I can run again. 2018 is not good for me.

Update Aug 17. Bad news from DR. Not healing well and have to wear a boot for another 3 weeks. If not healed than surgery
----------------------------
Update Sept 8 Podiatrist visit and new x-rays reveal that surgery is NOT needed (Yeah!). Out of the 2 fractures, one of them is completely healed and not visible anymore. The larger one however is still there and not changed too much. There are signs though that the wide crack is fusing though. Bad news is that it will be awhile longer. Still in Boot and will visit Dr next in Early Oct for more x-rays
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Update Oct 10. More of the same with the Foot. Not healing at all really but the podiatrist says it is.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Oct 20. Started some runs with Doctors permission but only flat clutterless surface. Go Slow. I am so out of shape now my legs are hurting. I started 4 days ago and now am up to 600m. No pain while running but about an hour afterwards I can feel the pain in my foot

Update March 8.2019
Hard to imagine that I am still trying to recover from this. I am in my 8th month. I am seeing one of the best specialist in the city. I have heard the same thing over and over. The 5th Metatarsal is one of the worse bones you can break. I started wearing a bone stimulator in Dec and am supposed to wear it for 4 months. Next appt at the end of March. I am able to walk so have started walking up hills so to work off some of this "injury fat" I have built up. May 2019 is my goal but the DR could just say I need surgury

Severe break, recovery was slow but a Bone stimulator did the trick finally
