R Torso, Lower Back Pain

2008-01-20 - 2008-07-18

severity grade: 2

Started in the upper right hamstring and felt like my piriformis problems, but moved to include right glute and pain in my lower back by my spine. Gets worse when I sit / lie down a lot, better with back extensions, and pain fades while running. The stretch that I feel it in the most is the IT band stretch. MUCH worse from driving.

Diagnosed as strained psoas due to muscle imbalance between lower abs and back. Began to recover with deep tissue sports massage, added lower ab (but NOT back) work a month later with good results. Not a good combination with a run, though. Warmup and combo of piriformis and quad stretching seems to help.

Definitely the muscle imbalance combined with standing positions in yoga and driving. It's still there if I run hard or hills in particular, but I can work it out with stretching piriformis and quads.
