severity grade: 3

Big toe ligament tear. Ruptured a ligament down the lefthand side of my left hallux. don't really know how I did it but did it at some point during the last 500m of my middle qualifier at EOC. Intensely painful & couldn't really walk properly at first.

This was an unbelievably frustrating injury, everytime it felt like getting better the pain would come back even worse than before. There isn't much you can do with soft tissue injuries like this apart from be sensible and rest at first and then gradually start to train again to strengthen the joint once it's started to heal. I was a bit lucky in that I did it at EOC so there was a physio there to tell me not to run at first - otherwise I would have (it's a toe) & it probably would have gone on for months rather than a couple of weeks. Bad timing but a lesson learnt.
