L Knee, Other

2006-12-19 - present

severity grade: 2

Light pain/discomfort on uneven surfaces. I don't remember anything which could cause this sort of injury; pain is noticeable going up/down stairs.

Took one week off of any kind of running (New Year week), but it didn't help. After I started running again pain was noticeable even running on the flat.

So, I started my new season training anyway, switched to paved trail (sometimes with grass/trails jogging). Did a time-trial 5mi loop - surprisingly knee didn't bother me during "race", but the pain was there afterward. Following week I increased amount of running time to at least one hour. Running wasn't too bad, only walking stairs gave me some discomfort.

Then I did longer run (90 min.) and that triggered a bit more pain. Switched to the shorter runs and due to work schedule started running in the mornings (40 min.). In addition I applied "Viprosal B" ointment every evening. We'll see results ...
------------
Spring 2007: after orienteering season has been started I had a lot more pain during/after each race and it took longer time to recover. US Team Trials in early May were my last races before I went to the doctor.
------------
2007-05-17: Diagnosed with patellofemoral syndrome based on X-Ray results for both knees.

2007-05-18: Started PT (physiotherapy), basically have to do a lot stretching.
