| at prospect hill, the same course from 3 weeks ago, backwards. not sure about the exact time. it was cold this time, but the snow was super-hard, so I was mostly running right on top. only a few times I sank up to my knees. I took the gps, but I didn't do a very good job of attaching the antenna, so I have sections with no reception. I need to make an antenna vest or something dorky like that. also, my headlamp was gradually fading on the last half, and then it suddenly got really bright again. any idea why that would be? the batteries were probably cold, and I hadn't charged them since before last session. |

| ok so last week I learned that even if I'm feeling strong/fine at a slow pace, that doesn't mean that I have the mobility to go faster. I'm going to make even more effort to stretch out my hips and stuff. |

| I did some easy hill intervals on the treadmill today. I think it was something like 5x4mins at 6% incline with 2 minutes of 1% in between. not sure about the distances here, I don't even remember how much the total was. my back feels a little funny now but at least it doesn't hurt... |

| faster than usual today (~7:50/mi for the last 5-10mins), which feels ok so far. my left knee has been a little tight since monday, but feeling okay now. I have to remember that I've been running a lot less than usual, and to take it slow coming back.
I have averaged just 6 miles/week for the last 6 months (damn...). interestingly, I actually ran less for the whole last year (from today) than I did in the first 6 months of 2002, around 900 miles in both cases. if you didn't know how to calculate stuff like that, use the navigation links to "User Menu" -> "Export / Print..." |

| I was just surfing around looking for info about running snowshoes, and I found some pages about an antarctic marathon. apparently there was some drama regarding the results. see the links in the left column of the "official" page for other details. |

| "long" run around the orange trail in the fells. not much in comparison to one year ago, but I'm happy to be training at all. very nice day, and the trail was all packed snow. |
 | Note | |
| |
| my back is doing a bit better these days (still not great) but I'm at a point where I can pretty much do as much slow running as I want without major problems. fast running (long strides) is another story, so I still have a long way to go. I'm probably doing enough that it's worthwhile thinking about the types of workouts I'm doing e.g. long, interval, technical etc. (I haven't been doing that at all for about 6 months now.) long/slow runs are fine and terrain training seems to work ok (short strides?). speedwork is not good so far, but maybe I can do uphill intervals without pain.
goals for this season? obviously the main one is to shake this injury for good. without the possibility of speedwork, there's not too much hope for a smokin' performance at the team trials (not that I'm super excited about going back to switzerland where the injury seems to have originated). definately still planning a weekend trip to Jukola (maybe a night leg?). will I run blue at a-meets this spring? maybe. will we defend our relay champs title? that would be nice. in the slightly-longer term, I have my eye on the night-o champs and the classic champs (big $$) this year. |

| WOC 2006 in denmark. I was in Aarhus for a weekend in '96; the terrain is quite a bit more hilly than spring-cup-land. (yeah contours!) actually two of the graphics on the site are from there: 1 2
