Note
feel fine today, but no time to run. I think this will be a rest week, I'm due for one. feet feeling quite good despite a lot of running during the weekend.

from work at lunch. heading to florida tomorrow...but unfortunately, not for orienteering. we're visiting alex's dad in ft lauderdale. if samantha travels well, she will likely be at the flying pig.
Stretching 12:00 [1]
not counting golf-ball arch massage, which I did off and on pretty much all day under my desk. felt good anyway.

back to work from PT via hayden woods trails, and a driving range where I scored a bunch of golf balls for arch massage. (and I was almost going to buy some). some hooligans hanging out in the woods, probably because it's school vacation week.
Stretching 7:00 [1]

with mark before lunch. arches felt fine.
Stretching 18:00 [1]
before and after. tried to loosen up the hamstrings, which seemed to help.

Tuesday Feb 14

Stretching (pt+) 20:00 [1]
saw the doctor about my MRI yesterday, as expected, he didn't see anything worth worrying about (he was looking for fused ankle/midfoot bones). so now we're doing ankle stretches in pt also.
Running 12:15 [3] 1.5 mi (8:09 / mi)
(injured) shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus VII
to/from pt. didn't stretch yesteraday, and my right arch was hurting this morning, and a little bit on the run, so I decided to cut it short (and get back to work). my hamstrings felt tighter than usual, that's more evidence for the connection there. we're not focusing on them at all in pt, so I'll have to continue to work on that myself.

samantha says happy valentine's day!
C • Love the picture of Samantha. ... 1

Sunday Feb 12

Running (road/snow) 33:00 [2] 3.9 mi (8:26 / mi) +150m 4:42 / km
weight:161lbs shoes: Adidas RT XI
so I'm slipping my shoes on, and I feel an acorn in the heel of the left one. except when I take it off, it's actually a crusty nugget of dog crap. nice. that was leftovers from friday night when the dogs had a party downstairs.

dumped that out and put the shoe right back on, fortunately no mess otherwise. a nice evening run after the snow was mostly done. an inch or two left on the roads made a nice cushion. we got about 15-18".
Stretching 10:00 [1]

Saturday Feb 11

Event: Baldwin hill training

Orienteering 1:02:55 [3] *** 6.2 km (10:09 / km) +200m 8:44 / km
spiked:11/13c slept:6.5 shoes: VJ Integrator, no spikes
hanging out streamers for the training exercise. it was nice to be out in the woods for the first time in a while. my feet felt okay even though the ground (mostly bare) was pretty frozen.

will try to do more frequent terrain running between now and the pig. if I want to have any speed this season, I will probably have to forget about building back up to the volume I had last year and start doing some faster stuff instead, assuming my feet cooperate. that might be good enough for sprints and short races anyway.
C • And forest stuff too... 3
Stretching 7:00 [1]

Thursday Feb 9

Stretching (PT) 10:00 [1]
had my MRI at 5am this morning. hopefully I'll see the pictures monday.
Running (road) 44:10 [3] 6.03 mi (7:19 / mi) +100m 4:20 / km

at lunch with neil. right arch a little sore afterwards.
Stretching 8:00 [1]

Wednesday Feb 8

Running (road) 29:34 [2] 3.85 mi (7:40 / mi) +65m 4:32 / km
ahr:151 slept:6.5 shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus VII
Stretching 7:00 [1]

Tuesday Feb 7

Running (road) 41:10 [3] 5.35 mi (7:41 / mi) +50m 4:39 / km
slept:6.5 shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus VII
6 mins to PT, and 35 mins after. experimenting with a midfoot/heel strike running form, which might be good to give my arches a temporary rest/stretch at the expense of shins and knees. (I'm usually a forefoot striker, since 2000 anyway) tried to keep it light anyways.

I'm wearing my 906s around as walking shoes now. they feel pretty good without arch supports.
Stretching 15:00 [1]

Sunday Feb 5

Running (road) 37:25 [2] 4.05 mi (9:13 / mi) +90m 5:22 / km
ahr:137 slept:8.0 (injured) shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus VII
slooow run on the roads. knee still fine, right arch hurting. went for a walk with alex later, arches felt ok then. felt like I might have been getting sick yesterday, but ok today.
Stretching 12:00 [1]
more icing lately too.

Saturday Feb 4

Running (trail) 45:27 [2] 5.1 mi (8:54 / mi) +215m 4:54 / km

vaughn hill loop. saw 3 llamas, but no goats. arches complaining a little, but knee feels fine so far today.
Stretching 10:00 [1]

Running (road) 30:03 [2] 3.85 mi (7:48 / mi) +50m 4:40 / km
ahr:152 slept:6.0 (injured) shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus VII
my right knee was feeling a little tight/irritated one the inside edge today. not sure what from. I only noticed it when walking before and after running, but not during the run.
Stretching 8:00 [1]

Wednesday Feb 1

Stretching (PT) 15:00 [1]
got some ultrasound and arch massage, and then did a bunch of stretching.
Running (road) 30:34 [3] 3.85 mi (7:56 / mi) +50m 4:45 / km
ahr:152 slept:5.5 shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus VII
got new shoes for the roads today. so far they feel pretty good. I can tell they're a lot more flexible than my trail shoes. nice cushion without being bulky.
Stretching 10:00 [1]
