ahr:170 max:185 spiked:21/23c shoes: VJ Falcon Spikes
pretty good run without real mistakes, the russians were just faster I think. In some places (at the end) the green was pretty crappy. toe hurting every time I stepped in those limestone fissure things.

ahr:180 max:186 spiked:14/16c shoes: VJ Falcon Spikes
blue on the first leg. didn't seem much like a relay since I was by myself after the first control (although I did see Balter on red), but I thought the "no-points" format was good. having interval-started people in the woods probably added some head-head action for second/third leg runners.

I would like to see more of these...I guess setting the course lengths is slightly subjective, because you could very easily skew the results one way or another by changing the "rank" at which times are equal, or just getting the lengths wrong. I think they used theoretical 90pt runners, and the course lengths seemed even.

some people have asked about gps details:

the unit is a garmin foretrex 201. I use the elastic expando strap to wear it around my upper right arm. it fits securely and is small and light. it seems to work fine under an o-suit or t-shirt sleeve. I got it for $140.
http://www.garmin.com/products/foretrex201/

for (these) colored tracks on o-maps, I use:
http://www.gartrip.de/ (shareware version)

and for other runs where the best map would be usgs, topofusion is the best software.

Sunday Oct 17

Running (warmup) 10:00 [2] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X
even colder this morning (I thought it was supposed to be warmer!)
Orienteering 1:26:19 [4] *** 14.4 km (6:00 / km) +460m 5:10 / km
shoes: VJ Falcon Spikes
good run. caught up to alexei around 7, and we were together the rest of the way. 14k is the distance travelled. the gps track is colored by speed (10 second average):
green < 6min/k < blue < 10min/k < red
if it shows me anywhere near a trail, I was running on that trail. check out me going the wrong direction on the way to 3. the graph on top is speed vs duration.

Sunday Oct 10

Orienteering (contours only) 1:13:39 [2] *** 8 km (9:12 / km)
ahr:145 spiked:15/20c shoes: VJ Falcon Spikes
I needed something specific for telemark, so I did a mix of control picking and line-o on a contours only version of baldwin hill. it was lots of fun since the terrain is very interesting (that's 250m between the north lines)...for anyone who hasn't seen the real map, there are a zillion rocks and stone walls. there's even a little bit of negative terrain. the woods were really nice, and since I got confused in a few places, I felt like it was a good warmup for next weekend.

Saturday Oct 9

Running (trail/terrain) 1:20:00 [2] 10.0 mi (7:59 / mi)
shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X
hanging and picking up some controls for an event at manchester/essex conservation area

Friday Oct 8

Running 58:52 [3] 7.4 mi (7:57 / mi)
ahr:152 max:164 shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X
it was warmer today, and I felt slow. at least I had the telemark map along for "entertainment"...an interesting exercise is to look at some place (I've randomly drawn a lot of circles) and try to figure out what's up and what's down.

Thursday Oct 7

Orienteering (sortof) 43:30 [3] *** 5.44 km (8:00 / km)

my right hamstring has felt really tight behind the knee yesterday and today. I tried stretching some, but I don't know how much that helped. wasn't bothering me at all when running, only when walking. will have to watch that.
Running 16:02 [5] 3.0 mi (5:20 / mi)
shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X
4x1200m, 3:15 rest. felt good, probably because it was cool (40s), and I took the day off yesterday.
