Friday Dec 31

Running (trail / snow) 1:08:00 [3] 8.5 mi (7:59 / mi) +100m 4:48 / km
ahr:160 shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus III
from home through vaughn hill and bowers. snow was packed pretty hard for much of the trail, made it a nice surface. a few strides at the end. knee and heel felt fine in these shoes.

Thursday Dec 30

Skiing (classic) 50:00 [2]
ahr:151 shoes: waxless classic skis
classic at weston
Running 33:30 [2] 4.2 mi (7:57 / mi)
ahr:148 shoes: Asics Gel Trabuco VII
heel still messed up. I should probably just retire these new shoes now and save the hassle/injury. ...and I just ordered some new ones online, same adidas as my previous pair. sucks to have to do that, but I probably can't return them since they've already been in the mud.

Wednesday Dec 29

Skiing (classic) 29:07 [3]
ahr:163 shoes: waxless classic skis
~5km. first time at weston this season. plenty of snow coverage, but nowhere near a foot (that's how much they said on their website).
Running (road) 31:48 [3] 4.2 mi (7:33 / mi) +50m 4:32 / km
ahr:161 shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus III
on the roads starting from the ski parking area, and up the hill into the town of weston. knee felt fine, but this morning I noticed that my left heel is swollen a bit where the [healed] blister used to be. I'm not sure what that's from, but it hurts when I wear any shoes except these.

Tuesday Dec 28

Running 29:34 [2] 3.58 mi (8:15 / mi)
rhr:39 shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X
back in bolton with a few inches of snow on the trails. knee still not feeling normal; since we have snow, I will probably substitute some skiing this week.
Skiing (classic) 8:00 [1]
shoes: waxless classic skis
skied a bit into bolton flats, until I saw a dude in orange with a gun, then I said hi and turned around and came back. with some more snow, and fewer orange dudes, it should be pretty good skiing in there (flat, wide, packed by snowmobiles). I saw at least one other set of ski tracks.

Sunday Dec 26

Running 1:38:47 [2] 13.03 mi (7:35 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel Trabuco VII
left knee feeling a little tight like yesterday, will have to watch that.

Saturday Dec 25

Running 52:05 [2] 6.87 mi (7:35 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel Trabuco VII
new shoes better when tied loose and without insoles.

Friday Dec 24

Running 1:08:31 [3] 9.1 mi (7:32 / mi)
shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X
morning run along the rock creek "trail" (paved) from wisconson ave/495 towards rockville. they added mile markers since I was here last year. biggins is visiting today since he got stuck at dulles.

Thursday Dec 23

Running 49:20 [2] 6.45 mi (7:38 / mi)
shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X
around bethesda before the rain got really crazy. was able to run in old shoes without any blister pain.

Wednesday Dec 22

Running 1:03:35 [2] 8.4 mi (7:33 / mi)
ahr:152 shoes: Asics Gel Trabuco VII
like 60F and sunny, running on the rock creek trail from wisconson ave towards dc. started getting a nice matching set of heel/achilles blisters half-way through. that sucks. the new shoes are pretty tight back there, so loosening up the laces helped a little. I can probably still use the shoes if I take the insoles out until they get a bit more broken in. luckily I brought my old running shoes too.

Tuesday Dec 21

Running 1:00:46 [3] 8.0 mi (7:35 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel Trabuco VII
running with mark on slushy/snowy roads and trails. a bit tired towards the end from the unsteady footing. new shoes seem fine though. heading to bethesda for a week tonight.

Sunday Dec 19

Running (trail) 1:52:58 [2] 14.1 mi (8:01 / mi) +515m 4:28 / km
ahr:154 rhr:44 shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X
running in douglass st forest on the midstate trail and some other dirt roads. found the southern end of the midstate trail (which runs from RI to NH) at the RI border, only to see a sign for the "north south trail" which apparently continues south all the way to the ocean. these long-distance trails are nice because they're generally well-marked and you can do any length run you want without worrying if the trail will end. I didn't go off the trails, but the forest looked a bit scratchy (although not thorny) much like GWMA which is nearby to the south.

Saturday Dec 18

Running (trail) 1:09:41 [2] 8.6 mi (8:06 / mi) +300m 4:33 / km
shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X
wachusett reservior trails.

after dark in the 20s

Sunday Dec 12

Running 1:06:40 [2] 7.7 mi (8:39 / mi) +230m 4:55 / km
shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X
out on trails when it was mostly dark and back on the roads after it was really dark. no long run today, this was a planned easy week.

Saturday Dec 11

Running (trail) 59:30 [3] 7.5 mi (7:56 / mi)
shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X

Friday Dec 10

Running (road) 30:25 [3] 4.1 mi (7:25 / mi)

from work. rainy and getting dark.

Thursday Dec 9

Running (road) 43:36 [3] 6.0 mi (7:16 / mi)
rhr:43 shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X

Wednesday Dec 8

Running 31:19 [2] 4.0 mi (7:49 / mi)
shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X
morning run. it was nice and sunny, which was causing a continuous rain of ice in the forest (melting and falling off the trees onto me). some damage to the forest runnability from the ice-induced deadfall, but it looked like mostly small stuff so hopefully that won't be around for long.
Running 38:00 [2] 4.8 mi (7:54 / mi)
shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X
an evening run around the neighborhood. I made it about 7 minutes down the road, and then alex (who was bored) came driving up. she drove with me the rest of the way. it was fun since there was no traffic and her headlights were a lot brighter than mine.

Tuesday Dec 7

Note
rhr:39
couldn't escape to run today. I'm a slave to the machine. not that it would have been much fun being 32F and raining.

Sunday Dec 5

Running (trail) 1:47:13 [2] 13.6 mi (7:53 / mi) +475m 4:25 / km
shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X
running some more at wachusett reservoir. these fire roads would make great ski trails if someone groomed them (and there was snow)

Saturday Dec 4

Running (trail) 1:10:10 [3] 8.75 mi (8:01 / mi) +310m 4:29 / km
slept:6.0 shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X
on the west side of wachusett reservior. some really nice forest mixed with small thick pine stuff. unfortunately the contours are pretty boring..on the bright side, that makes the topo a better base map.

Friday Dec 3

Running 46:55 [3] 6.35 mi (7:22 / mi)
shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X

Thursday Dec 2

Running 43:48 [3] 6.0 mi (7:17 / mi)
shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X

Wednesday Dec 1

Running 1:06:19 [2] 8.7 mi (7:37 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel Cumulus III
