Sunday Jan 30

Running (road) 1:08:00 [2] 8.4 mi (8:06 / mi)
ahr:148 weight:162lbs
on roads around bare hill pond; another really nice day. I had planned to go longer, but I was battling fatigue and stiffness from yesterday. at least I saw some goats.

Saturday Jan 29

Note
craftsbury 25k classic.
Skiing race (classic) 2:37:07 [3] 25 km (6:17 / km) +1121m 5:08 / km
shoes: waxless classic skis
so this was my first ski race ever, I think I need to get in better shape before trying another long one. there were a lot of steep ups and downs, so I never really got in a good rhythm, except in a nice section towards the end, but by then I was tired. old guys with faster skis passed me on the downhills, and towards the end at least I was passing them on the steep climbs. I meant to wear my HRM, but I left the transmitter in the car, so I'm not really sure how hard I was working. yeah, I guess it was fun, and it was a really nice day.

Thursday Jan 27

Skiing (classic) 39:23 [3]
shoes: waxless classic skis

Monday Jan 24

Skiing (classic) 44:45 [3]
shoes: waxless classic skis
3 big laps after work at weston. felt pretty good
Skiing (skate) 15:47 [3]
shoes: skate skis
1 big lap. first session on my new skate skis. felt much less good. was fun, but I don't get as much help from running training, so I got tired real quick. managed to avoid any face-plants though.
Note
oops. google news alert for "orienteering" found this one.

Sunday Jan 23

Running (road) 1:12:07 [3] 9.0 mi (8:01 / mi) +300m 4:31 / km
ahr:159 slept:6.0 shoes: NB 906
night-time run around bolton. I wasn't really in the mood for running, so I forced myself to go and told alex I would either be back in a half hour, or an hour depending on whether I was enjoying it. turned out to be fantastic conditions, with hard-packed snow on the roads, a full moon (headlight not really necessary), and no traffic (probably because of the patriots game). of course there was the -8F wind chill, but I managed to mostly stay out of the wind until the end.
Note
weight:160lbs
oh yeah, and I spent like an hour shoveling 15-20" of snow off my driveway.

Saturday Jan 22

Running 1:08:25 [3] 8.5 mi (8:02 / mi) +300m 4:30 / km
ahr:157 shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X red
snowy trail run during the beginning stages of the blizzard. less than an inch so far, but they're saying we can expect drifts up to six feet.

Thursday Jan 20

Running 43:42 [3] 6.0 mi (7:17 / mi) +100m 4:18 / km
ahr:164 shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X red
felt crappy today. maybe it had something to do with eating crap (a bunch of cookies actually) for breakfast. or maybe I was overdressed and ran faster than usual. in any case, I need to go to the grocery store.

Wednesday Jan 19

Skiing (classic) 31:00 [2]
shoes: waxless classic skis

Monday Jan 17

Running (warmup/cooldown) 20:00 [2] 2.5 mi (7:59 / mi)

Orienteering race (race) 16:55 [4] *** 2.9 km (5:50 / km) +130m 4:46 / km
ahr:172 spiked:13/13c rhr:48 shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X
sprint. it was cold enough that I wore a long-sleve t-shirt underneath, and my fingers were still frozen for the first half. pretty fun though.
C • testing something 4

ahr:168 spiked:22/23c shoes: VJ Falcon Spikes
classic at oak mtn. good run, only miss was under a minute (up the wrong gulley at 15). #3 and #4 were both misplaced. I was lucky; in both cases I arrived at the real spot and could see the flag from there. others lost more time. quads hurt quite a bit going up and down stairs that evening...I made sure to strech out a few times so I could move on monday.

Orienteering 18:00 [3] *** 2.4 km (7:30 / km) +50m 6:48 / km
ahr:160 spiked:5/5c shoes: VJ Falcon Spikes
in alabama at the team 3-day meet. running the practice course on the model area a few hours before the wre. I wanted to get out here since I hadn't orienteered since thanksgiving, and wasn't sure how sharp I'd be technically. luckily the navigation/map-reading wasn't very hard. felt relatively strong (easy) up the hills.
Running warm up/down 20:00 [2] 2.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: VJ Falcon Spikes
Orienteering race 37:10 [4] *** 4.7 km (7:54 / km) +300m 6:00 / km
ahr:178 max:185 spiked:15/15c shoes: VJ Falcon Spikes
clean run at the wre.
Orienteering (line-o) 1:30:00 [1] ***

walking a line-o with the laporte JV squad. a good exercise.

M21 WRE - Splits

Thursday Jan 13

Running 45:06 [3] 6.1 mi (7:24 / mi)
ahr:159 shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X red

Wednesday Jan 12

Note
it was cold and rainy, and I had work to do, so I wimped out. it's easier to wimp out when I can rationalize it as "resting for the weekend"

Tuesday Jan 11

Running 45:50 [3] 6.0 mi (7:38 / mi)
rhr:41 shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X red

Sunday Jan 9

Running (road) 1:48:43 [2] 14.45 mi (7:30 / mi) +395m 4:19 / km
ahr:152 slept:6.0 shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X red
long run on the slushy roads of bolton and harvard. started out feeling a little ill, then in the middle I felt slow, and at the end I felt pretty good. includes 3 strides on my street after finishing.
Skiing (classic) 40:00 [2]
shoes: waxless classic skis
skiing with alex in bolton flats right after running. we found a nice loop that we could ski around at different paces and still see each other. great snow conditions, except that any tracks that existed were flattened by snowmobiles. but at least they packed the snow down pretty well... I could almost skate in places. I had some energy left after the run, so I tried doing a bit of double-pole (since arms will probably be my weekness at craftsbury). needless to say I couldn't do that for very long.
Note
spent half an hour walking around making a map of alex's school. mostly just checked that the buildings were in the same place as the photo, so I could draw it when I got home. I'm supposed to be entertaining the middle-school "adventure racing club" on tuesday with a super easy park-o type thing.

Saturday Jan 8

Running (road) 58:37 [3] 7.5 mi (7:48 / mi) +300m 4:19 / km
ahr:156 shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X red
running on snowy roads in bolton. at the beginning it was snowing so hard it was difficult to avoid inhaling snowflakes, but I guess I could have eaten worse things...

Friday Jan 7

Running (road) 30:22 [3] 4.05 mi (7:30 / mi) +80m 4:23 / km
ahr:160 shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X red
morning run on snowy roads to bowers st. New shoes are good.
Running (road) 45:50 [2] 6.0 mi (7:38 / mi) +100m 4:31 / km
shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X red
with mark, bob, and darien around lunchtime.

Thursday Jan 6

Skiing 20:00 [2]
skiing with alex in bolton flats for about 40 minutes total. some of that was slow or stopped.
Running (road) 55:28 [3] 7.4 mi (7:29 / mi) +300m 4:08 / km
ahr:161 shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X
the vaughn hill loop plus some added on into a fancy neighborhood around bare hill pond. the snow had stopped, and it was just 25F and raining/icing. traction was still pretty good though, especially in frozen tire tracks. one pair of new shoes came today, back to the same addidas, just a half size larger. luckily the stripes are a different color so I can tell them apart in the training log;)

Wednesday Jan 5

Running (road) 30:30 [3] 4.05 mi (7:32 / mi) +80m 4:25 / km
ahr:159 max:165 shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X
morning run up to bowers rd and back. it was snowing heavily enough that I had problems with snow in my eyes. there may be hope for some skiing this week...craftsbury isn't far off, and I'm not especially prepared (but at least I'm getting some miles in)
Running (road) 45:17 [2] 6.0 mi (7:32 / mi) +100m 4:28 / km
ahr:154 shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X
afternoon run from work. mill st mostly snow-covered.

Tuesday Jan 4

Running (road) 47:07 [3] 6.0 mi (7:51 / mi)
shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X

Sunday Jan 2

Running (trail) 1:48:42 [2] 13.88 mi (7:49 / mi) +200m 4:39 / km
shoes: Adidas Resp Tr X

Saturday Jan 1

Running 57:22 [2] 7.0 mi (8:12 / mi)
running through chester with the monkeys. I forgot my shoes, so I wore a pair of dad's, which worked out fine.
