CompassSport Cup Final - Longshaw EstateReally pleased with my run today. No major navigational errors, after overshooting control #1 to #9 losing about 3 minutes. This is a relatively common error for me - I need to work on estimating distance). Nailed 2-4, but could have done better on #5, choosing to go straight rather than following an intermittent trail slightly to the west, and this time underestimating distance. Flew to #6, slower but spot on #7, #8 and #9 (again…).
Out onto the moor from #9, and hesitated on the gate, as many others did I believe. Chose to run on the path north and east rather than through the heather - it works well for me as I feel my pace is quite good at the moment and it helps my confidence, but I suspect it cost me a little time, although I did take two people #10-11.
Nothing to report on #12-17, but the leg to #18 felt long, my nose was running overtime and I walked a bit. My nose was the only legacy of my cough/cold which was worrying me at its peak on Saturday, so I should be grateful.
Overshot #19 slightly, drawn by another control on the track, but relocated quickly. #20 was fine, although I ended up slightly west/below the control. Spiked #21 and #22, but by #23 was starting to flag. Getting in amongst other runners for the first time since #15 restored my concentration and I got straight to #24, #25 in the finishing field and #26. Hesitated slightly on #27 when I didn't get far enough west round the corner and then home.
90th out of 130 finishers.
