Orienteering (Orange) 44:50 [3] 3.3 km (13:35 / km)
shoes: Vasque Running Shoes

Did the Afton Orange course. Because the controls were close to the trail I tried to push the speed a bit. As far ad I know, I got the best time by 10 minutes
1 PM

Orienteering (Green) 1:29:19 [3] 1.0 km (1:29:19 / km)
shoes: Vasque Running Shoes

I helped out at checkin for a while but at 1:30 I went out for round 2. We were out of brown maps so I took a Green. That wascway abive my skill level. The first point was on an otherwise bland hillside. I ran into another group on the way up and we both ended up looking around thecsame latge clearing for the point. The went down an unmarked trail while I climbed to the top to ser if I coukd take nearing. As it turnef oyt, the unmarkef trail was wher my bearing led.
I bushwackef my way to the next point which meant a lot of up and down. I hot thete snd encountered Ken and his soon, a scoutmadter and Boy Scout out on their second course ever, with a green map, and it was starting to rain. We tramped up and down a draw until we stumbled unto our point. I wanted to ake trails but Ken wantwd to bushwack to our next point which meant even more up and down. We ended up in a very large clearing on top og a hill looking for a point somewhere just down the hill. We wandered around for a while until lightning became an ossue. We decided at 3pm to csll it and headed in. Ken didn't do running and I felt like dumping them in the rain was rude so I walked in with them
3 PM

Orienteering warm up/down (Control Collection) 1:00:00 [3] 1.5 km (40:00 / km)
shoes: Vasque Running Shoes

I don't actually know the distance on this but I collected the last four controls from the Red course. By this point it was pouring and I wad getting tired. I didn't run the entire tume but I did some. I enjoyed going fir some difficult controls without feeling a time pressure.
The first control was up this ridiculously steep path, made doubly hard by the rain water running down it. The second control was half way up a hill between two campsites in a little gully. The rhird control was rhe very same one we had quit on during the green course. It wasvon the opposite side of the hill from the second hill so I went straight up the gully. This time I found that contril wuth no effort. It was a great/annoying spot. If you approached from the bottom of the hill or east it ws totally obvious. From the top or west it was concealed. Finnay I had to grab the control on the flat area by the rivet. It was easy to find but by this point the groynd was soaked and each step took me ankle deep inti the Earth. Tookbthose all back to the visitirs center.

As I keft the visitirs center (after changing into dry clothes) the rain had stopped.figures :)

Anaerobic (Kettlebells) 30:00 [4]
shoes: Black New Balance

24 K snatch 148
I had a really good pace going, optimistically head to 200 or more realistically 180. In the third set on my right hand I felt the skin shift an knew I had just torn a callous off. After that all U could focus on was the tearing sensation.

16 K Cossacks 70
This is the one exercise where I felt I could have given more. I was still distracted from the snatches. That sai, as always, these did great thongs for my mobility.

Mountain Climbers 200
8 PM

Biking warm up/down 42:42 [3] 7.8 mi (5:28 / mi)

Laura was up for a bike ride tonight after my workout. We road to the interstate and back.

Anaerobic (kettlebells) 45:00 [3]
shoes: Vibram 5 fingers

Felt a little stiff and slow this morning but not too bad. I'm actually feeling a tweak I put in my back on Saturday more. When I was using my hip to move a file cabinet into the corner of the moving truck I felt that familiar feeling of vertebrae crushing the disc a little and thus the nerve aggravation. Nothing serious but I could really see the weakness on my left side when I videoed myself doing Thread the Needle for this workout. Also my range of motion was noticeably poor.
Tomorrow it is supposed to rain so if there is no trail watch I may just do mobility work.
Double Turkish Getup 16K 7/6
Never done these before. Wow do I have some technique to work on, sloppy, missed my last one for rushing it
Video of some dude doing them right with twice the weight: http://youtu.be/n7l9FJS9U-w

double kettlebell snatch -> press 16K
75
video of chick who does swing->snatch->press->press http://youtu.be/xPzjDHAIdIg

Thread the Needle
I did a handful of these 15 per side or so. The weakness in my hip made me more unstable than usual.
No video found, I'll make one.

other race (Adventure Race) 5:30:00 [4] 15.0 mi (22:00 / mi)
shoes: Vasque Running Shoes

MNOC AR Tune Up
Did the AR Tune Up but didn't finish. In the procesd I got an education and got humbled a bit. The race srmtarted with a short, 3 point orienteering effort. That went well and I feel like I stayed in the pack.
On bikes I wad towards the rear of the pack as we set out. I still don't trust my navigation instincts so I spend a lot of time checking and rechecking my maps. People pass me as I do this. As it turns out it was a good thing I did because my route was a little hidden and I wasted 15 or so minutes looking for the trail.
I got to the next orienteering section and feel I handled it pretty well. More biking then orienteer. At this point I was in last. Two things account for that, poor bike navigation and double-checking my route too much, too often.
As last at the kayaks I had to wait for some boats to come back theis burned a bunch of time. The other team waiting and I were told not to do the srcond half of the kayaking. So I went out and got ny one point. Rowing one of the things solo is a real challenge. I floundered a lot until I saw another guy solo who was up on his knees. Boy did that mske a difference.
After kayaking it was a quick ride down to the next bit of orienteering. The map was an areal photo with almost no noteworthy features. Then I figured out what riad signs looked like on the map. I used those and wad able to hit a bunch of point reslly fast. I made up dome time here.
Bike back to the start snd ther was a 15 or 20 point orienteering course waiting for me. I got about 6 points when my brain lost the arguement with my body and I headed in. I had 30 minutes left so I ciyld have grabbed 2 or 3 more pojnt but exhaustion and blisters where catching up to me.
I checked in, ate some food, talked to Erin and race organizer - Mike.
I learned a lot. Got humbled. I think I'll oark adventure racing for the year be keep hammering away on orienteering. I'n going to take sone classes on kayaking, keep improving me aerobics and navigation and try again next year.

Now PIZZA!
