XC / road / hill race 31:34 [3] 4.2 mi (7:31 / mi)

Black Rock 5

I have been getting marginally fitter recently, and part of the motivation is the BlackRock running club fortnightly 5k. I am only 30secs off winning (provided Andrew Douglas chooses not to come) and denting some serious egos in the process. BlackRock running club decided to do the BlackRock 5 this year.

I had the advantage of having run it before, but I have been feeling ill over the past few days. Same illness I had a lot of last winter. Feeling nauseous, bloated and aching all over. Not good.

Set off a bit from the front of the race. Ran hardish from the start, and felt ok. Get to the beach and continued in not too much pain. I pass one of the guys fro work - Chris 1 - but he is right on my shoulder though. Pass loads of people going around the rock. One guy is walking. I don't understand. Run hard, get to some knee deep water and walk?

Back up the beach and I feel very bloated. Feels like it is restricting my breathing. I drop back a bit. When we get to the road I see Chris 1 along side me, and Chris 2 from work too. Damn. I surge to keep up, and at the top of the start hill we are joined by Julian from work too. Takes the piss. All 4 of us in a row! Chris1 rips down the hill, turns the corner. I'm not sure he knows how big the hill is. I see him fade a bit half way up as he realises the true extent of the hill. Chris2 gets me too, and I am not sure where Julian ended up, but we must all be within 20secs of each other which is hilarious! Andrew Douglas spoilt the party by sprinting off and leaving us. That's a bit antisocial.

Fun race. I gave all I had, and thing I am making marginal improvements, certainly better than last winter. Great to see so many trots that I haven't seen for ages, and JonX. Damn, body is killing and now for the harvester...and more JonX apparently.

P.S. I managed to get chafed calves with the sand yesterday - that's how big they are. Ought!
