Trail running 11:06 [3] 1.33 mi (8:21 / mi)

Jog to the start of the Melrose race along the banks of the Tweed on a crisp winters day. Lovely.

Orienteering - race 17:01 [3] 2.12 mi (8:02 / mi)

Melrose race.

A fast and furious sprint race - and lots of fun. I over-cooked it a bit and got lost on the way to 9 dropping a minute, and then took a hasty (bad) route choice by going left to 12 and dropped another 40 secs or so. So initially I was a bit miffed to be 2:06 down on Ray, but with those mistakes I sort of understand why.

Trail running 12:07 [3] 1.37 mi (8:51 / mi)

Jog back. Still lovely!

Orienteering - race 15:59 [3] 1.88 mi (8:30 / mi)

Tweedbank race

This was possibly even more fun than Melrose. More interesting terrain. I didn't really like control 6 though, a very, very steep bank indeed and I found it a bit dangerous. I was a bit unsettled by it (steep, lose banks freak me out) and it took me a bit of time to regain my calm. The rest of the course was fun though. I got a bit confused going to 11 and dropped a bit, but apart from that, good.

I was 1:13 down on Ray, and 50 of them was on number 6 (he went around), 13 at 11 so I was more satisfied with the afternoons race. Unfortunately some disappointing news - LUCY BEAT ME ON THE RUN IN for the first time ever. Last Ward :-(

A few points:

1. Great to have 2 sprint races. Urban is tested at BOC level and JK with sprint races. Why don't we have more formats like this to practice?

2. The kids races were some of the best I have seen. The first race was very simple indeed, and was great for building confidence for both Laurence and Lucy. The second race was probably BOC / JK M/W10 level, and I shadowed Lucy who managed fine. Really, really appreciated the effort made with these courses.

3. The tablet recommendation was sound too. The first thing we did when we had finished was to hot-foot it to the Melrose sweet shop!

XC / road / hill race 46:30 [3] 6.5 mi (7:09 / mi)

Scottish national xc. An idiot decided last year that the way to introduce equality into XC was for the women and the men to both run 10k. At league races the women run 8k and the men 12(?). The extra distance kills the race, and means a lot of our less elite runners just don’t bother turning up. I loathe this sort of shite. I ran around, felt shit (one of those nothing-in-the-tank days) and hated every minute. I still passed 10 people in the extra 2k, and was 70th, compared to something like 100th last year. One of my teammates said she thought a lot of the regular league runners weren’t there. I’m not running it next year if it is 10k though. I just don’t have the time to train for it properly.

Kris was utterly brilliant though! He won by miles. Such an excellent role model.

Trail running 41:45 [3] 5.01 mi (8:20 / mi)

Braids and Mortonhall. Lots of horrid dogs and horrid owners.

5 PM

Road running 45:47 [3] 5.88 mi (7:47 / mi)

Weary run home. Raynaud really bad today, and it is just draining my energy.

Wednesday Feb 21, 2018 #

Road running 39:52 [3] 5.07 mi (7:52 / mi)

From home around the Queens Drive and back. Pleasingly this run - which used to be 4.8 miles is now just over 5 from the new house. I felt quite crap after last nights speed, but ended up running more quickly than expected. Could some sort of fitness improvement be on the horizon???

7 PM

Road running 56:00 [3] 7.2 mi (7:47 / mi)

Bit of an ear infection meant a day off work. Felt better later so went to CAAC. They were doing muddy hill reps, and I hadn’t brought my x-talons (still not found that box yet) so ducked the session and did my own thing. Efforts within a 7 mile run.

Spent the day sorting out o-maps. I was filtering, chucking mostly. Keeping the woc ones, jk, bocs and races I liked. Chucking the maps of races that didn't go to plan. If only I knew in the past that a crap run would be literally binned at some point, I wouldn’t have let it bother me so much at the time. And now I have a box of good runs, and it feels good (apart from some of the crap woc runs, and erm pretty much all boc longs. Grr).

10 AM

Off-road running 56:22 [3] 5.0 mi (11:16 / mi)

Up the hill that we started up yesterday for 2.5 miles. Legs had a bit of a refusal 1.6miles in when the hill was at the steepest, but it got slightly flatter after that so I was able to go on.
4 PM

Off-road running 41:54 [3] 4.03 mi (10:24 / mi)

Run back from Morzine with Mum. Worryingly at a faster pace than this morning’s run, though without the 400m+ climb.

Thursday Feb 15, 2018 #

4 PM

Off-road running 1:47:12 [3] 8.16 mi (13:08 / mi)

Went for a run with Ray. It took in 750m climb, and we were sinking to knee - sometimes thigh - deep in snow at times. Interesting. Had a “heated discussion” when it was getting dark, the snow was getting thicker, we had no head torch or other kit and were still going up. We lived though.

Tuesday Feb 13, 2018 #

Off-road running 49:59 [3] 5.3 mi (9:26 / mi)

Similar to yesterday but taking a morning off skiing as I was getting unbearably tired. Felt better, snow was deeper. Very pretty.

Thursday Feb 8, 2018 #

5 PM

Road running 38:45 [3] 5.3 mi (7:19 / mi)

Hectic at work, hectic at home. Worked long and hard all day, then sprinted home to get back for Rona. Pet Shop Boys again! We’ve had a breakthrough in the unpacking this evening. Found the marmalade!

Wednesday Feb 7, 2018 #

6 PM

Road running 40:55 [3] 5.18 mi (7:54 / mi)

Sprinted home with a bit of a detour after working a long day. Tired, but the joys of the Pet Shop Boys kept me happy!
Unpacking status - found gin and chocolate and cling film. Can’t find plates, bowls or marmalade.

6 PM

Road running 40:34 [3] 5.03 mi (8:04 / mi)

Move day. Got up early to pack. Then the removal guys arrived and did the main lot. Then to get the keys. The people that bought our place said they sent the money at 10. They didn’t. We needed the cash in so we could pay for the new place and pick up keys. Our solicitor tried to get hold of their solicitor all day, before finally getting the money at 3... I pick up the kids, lucy was crying cause we hadn’t moved house, the removal people were say outside saying they had to go if we didn’t get the keys by 4 and didn’t know when they would be able to come back with all of our stuff. Ray is sat at the solicitor of the place we are buying m, waiting for the money to go through and the keys. He gets them at 3:39, and sprints back to save the day. Phew.

Then dinner at some friends and a glass of wine, then put the kids to bed, then 5 miles. Tough, but done!

Monday Feb 5, 2018 #

Saturday Feb 3, 2018 #

4 PM

Trail running 50:39 [3] 5.74 mi (8:49 / mi)

Braids and Blackford route.

Too ill to justify going to the masters xc. Felt ok on this run though. My legs felt good, my lungs not great. The going was firmish as it was so cold which was nice.

Friday Feb 2, 2018 #

9 AM

Road running 42:49 [3] 5.05 mi (8:29 / mi)

Still ill. Shuffled into town to sign some papers at the solicitors. Them home for a day of packing. House move Tuesday, after the most mindblowingly stressful faffage over the past 6 months. I don't want to tempt fate. The chances of more disasters is high!

Road running 41:51 [3] 5.04 mi (8:18 / mi)

Doing the minimum despite my cold.
