Note

Feeling surprisingly perky after a weekend of getting cold and wet. Must have been the socialising. Back to work tomorrow!

Orienteering - race 53:30 [3] 6.2 mi (8:38 / mi)
slept:9.0

Bethecar moor. Short Brown.

Just as tentative as yesterday as my calf was v sore from yesterday, and the tussocks were a nightmare for it. Lots of sudden jerking. I had to walk the last bit. The nav was a bit easier today, so my others did better in comparison as I had another clean run but more of the other competitors did too.

Really enjoyed it though. I had first start so had the course to myself, and the weather added an extra bit of fun that helped make up for the lack of speed.

So I got to the finish, and hot-footed it back to the van, grab some clothes, get the kids in their o kit, find dibbers and compasses for them, and head off to the white, rapidly getting cold. Lucy and I start first, Laurence 2mins later. I have a quick glance at the map, we set off up the road. Only for the start chappie to call me back to say he is sure we are going the wrong way, and maybe we should check the map again. I do, and realise I have made a 180 degree error and we sheepishly backtrack through the start, much to Laurence's amusement. Big mistake, white course! How embarassing!

Orienteering - race 38:00 [3] 4.2 mi (9:03 / mi)

Lakes weekend. Simpsons ground.

Hmm. V crap calf, but can I really do a race without a race head on? I'll set off and see. A few metres from the start it was clear I would have no choice as I slightly jerked my calf, and if was v sore, but I decided to keep going, in a running v slowly not flexing my calf fully and avoiding the roughest bits of forest sort of way. This made the course a bit irrelevant as when you are moving so slowly you make no mistakes, and it very much feels like going through the motions. I'm not sure I enjoyed it, just because I couldn't really get into it, tho the planning was excellent and the terrain suited me. I still managed to beat Nick and Ray though. Phew!

Same inexplicable fatigue illness. Blood tests came back without pointing to anything in particular. Bummer. Dr is going to think about which tests to do next, in the meantime saying it sounds like a fatigue thing. Not very helpful.

slept:8.0 (rest day)

A bit exhausted. I seem to spend all my time shivering, or being exhausted from spending the day shivering. Same old stuff as scottish champs this year.

Off-road running 23:18 [3] 2.45 mi (9:31 / mi)

Trying out my calf. A jaunt around Arthur's seat. It was ridiculously misty, and I could see about 2m in front of me. I tried to run around the bog, and sort if got lost in the mist and nearly ended in the bog, which is actually open water. Who knew? I have never been close enough before to find out.

Calf v shit, so I walked the last bit through pollock. Perfect prep for the weekend!

First late night for ages last night. Tired!

Trial run. It was sore after a mile so I kept is short on purpose. Got to get it better by the weekend as it looks like such fun!

Couldn't run the XC well due to my calf, so I took the hbt babysitting circle hit early on and stayed home to entertain kids and clear out the garage. My life is woefully dull.
