7 AM

Road running 14:32 [3] 1.6 mi (9:05 / mi)

Phyllis’s 60th in Morningside last night. Early morning hung over trek to get the van...

Off-road running 1:14:29 [3] 6.61 mi (11:16 / mi)

...to meet Sula for a Pentlands jaunt. From Hillend top car park, carketton Allermuir, around the path around the bottom of Castlelaw and hone. Felt ill, and felt I was holding her back. Lovely to have company though.
9 AM

Road running 7:28 [3] 0.9 mi (8:18 / mi)

Home and tired sprint up the road to catch the junior parkrun. Loz 7:58, Lucy 9:26.

Saturday Jun 29, 2019 #

9 AM

XC / road / hill race 21:15 [3] 3.1 mi (6:51 / mi)

Dunbar parkrun.

Nice course. Died a bit in the last mile. Twisty turney forest path course, so although pancake flat my time was ok.

Trail running 20:00 [3] 2.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

3 PM

Orienteering - training 30:00 [3] 2.6 mi (11:32 / mi)

Still pissed off about yesterday, so I probably shouldn’t have tried to go out on the green at today’s course at Barnes Ness. Because I was too pissed off, and got more grumpy and pissed off with each control. And so jacked.
4 PM

Orienteering - training 34:00 [3] 2.0 mi (17:00 / mi)

Shadowed Lucy around the orange.

Very funny, as MC started a bit before us and made a total balls up of number one. Then she came past us, and was around us for the rest of the course, going quicker but doing silly things, so Lucy was able to dig in and take a tow. Thanks MC, Lucy was dead chuffed to beat someone as classy as you!

Then I went for a swim with Kate (in the sea, in the frigging SEA!) and it was lovely, and made me marginally less :-(

(rest day)

Really really pissed off.

To the post office
7 PM

Orienteering - training 38:33 [3] 4.91 mi (7:51 / mi)

Sprintelope Ellen’s Glen.

This felt laborious, running felt hard work. Good course, interesting area. Lots of scope for further races.

Not feeling the love just now though.

Tuesday Jun 25, 2019 #

Note

Not really up for running today

Sunday Jun 23, 2019 #

10 AM

Off-road running 54:51 [3] 5.22 mi (10:30 / mi)

Around some fields with Jase and Andy P. Nice, leisurely pace.

Saturday Jun 22, 2019 #

9 AM

Trail running 1:35:42 [3] 8.75 mi (10:56 / mi)

With Jase and Becca. Up High Cup Nick, across to the bridle way and back. Running with company is such a rare treat!

Friday Jun 21, 2019 #

6 AM

Off-road running 34:51 [3] 3.52 mi (9:54 / mi)

The warm up / down I couldn’t do yesterday. The crags and the dassies. Not a cloud in the sky. Gentle cool breeze. Lovely!

Thursday Jun 20, 2019 #

7 PM

XC / road / hill race 26:56 [3] 2.66 mi (10:07 / mi)

Allermuir Gallop

Much fun had. I was toiling a bit, but Ivor was running alongside me, and his BO was hitting the back of my throat so sharply I HAD to get ahead. Motivation.

12 PM

Road running 59:15 [3] 8.0 mi (7:24 / mi)

Too hot for me today. 8 miles at 7:30 so I was under that - but not by much. Lap of the meadows, then canal to aqueduct, then back. Waiting for this training to make me faster...

12 PM

Intervals - long endurance 57:54 [3] 6.98 mi (8:18 / mi)

First run from new work. Martin session.

3:56
3:54
3:55
4:00
3:58

Felt soooo shite, and wanted to jack after the first 100m but stuck at if and got it done. Which is what every reps session - esp when training alone - is about for me. Not giving in to the temptation to quit. I don’t think I am the only person.

Sunday Jun 16, 2019 #

9 AM

Trail running 1:17:28 [3] 10.0 mi (7:45 / mi)

Along the canal then the craiglockhart loop and home. Weary today. Legs aches. It’s hard to run hard after running hard the night before. I think I need more time between hard sessions.

Saturday Jun 15, 2019 #

6 PM

Road running 40:03 [3] 5.15 mi (7:47 / mi)

Lap of Queens Drive, making an effort on the time trial. 17:44. Best 17:07 but that is a bit of an outlier. 17:44 is good.

Friday Jun 14, 2019 #

Note

Rest day. Too busy

Thursday Jun 13, 2019 #

7 AM

Trail running 1:13:49 [3] 8.3 mi (8:54 / mi)

another pre-7am start. Followed Peter’s advice and headed to the countryside, and this was cracking. Armed with my phone and it’s OS app I took a long bridleway to Out Wood. Thought this would be muddy (everywhere is flooded here) but it had quite a firm surface. Which meant after about half a mile when it went uphill, the path turned into a river. Got quite close to the top of Beacon Hill but there was a bit of a creepy guy in the woods and the paths here were tediously muddy, so I turned around and headed to a permissive path. This was a lovely, quiet trip through the woods and fields, but involved crossing a stream twice that was a raging torrent, and I had a bit of a change of route due to not wanting to plough through a field of calves, and I picked up a few nettle stings. Lovely though, just lovely. Back through out wood, which had lots of permanent controls and must be pretty good for orienteering as I found it quite disorientating.

Felt really good. Might have to try morning running more often.

Road running 1:02:42 [3] 8.0 mi (7:50 / mi)

More ming weather in Loughborough. This was the only free time today, and 8 miles in 7:30 miling was on the plan. I really struggle with running first thing - just can’t run hard - so was pleased with getting out there, and pleased with 7:50miling. I haven’t decided whether to do the BSBM so was not running on the campus, just ran down roads, picking them if they were not too busy. Found some hills alas. Ran out for 4 miles and turned around. It was quite loopy and repetitive but got it done.

Tuesday Jun 11, 2019 #

6 AM

Road running 21:57 [3] 2.57 mi (8:32 / mi)

Picking up a parcel via the meadows, which was too big for me to run home with. Bummer. Nice morning for a walk tho.

Weary this morning, but took my iPod with me. First shuffle song was “don't stop believing”, which is the absolute best HBT wassail song, so had me grinning and laughing all the way up the hill.
5 PM

Intervals - long endurance 35:00 [3] 5.0 mi (7:00 / mi)

4 x 1 mile with 400m rec.

6:27
6:25
6:23
6:28

In Loughborough for a conference. Uni tracks are tough, esp Loughborough where everyone is young and fit. Tired and ming weather so pleased to get it done.

Trail running 26:47 [3] 3.0 mi (8:56 / mi)

Warm up and down

Monday Jun 10, 2019 #

Note

Ray is back but I am single-parenting again for the evening. How did that happen?

Sunday Jun 9, 2019 #

4 PM

Road running 1:06:30 [3] 9.0 mi (7:23 / mi)

Along the canal to the water of leith and back.

Saturday Jun 8, 2019 #

Note

Still single parenting. The best opportunity for running evaporated when Lucy got all upset at a school football match and she needed me to console her instead. Sigh.

Friday Jun 7, 2019 #

Note

Rest day. Single-parenting. Scottish Schools was exciting though! Lots of people running well. Lots of smiles. And all 28 Preston Street kids came back - even if Mr McLean had to go out on the hunt for some of them.

Trail running 37:59 [3] 4.4 mi (8:38 / mi)

Last day at BlackRock. Yay! Negotiated an early finish. Yay! Extra good as Ray is off to his brothers stag do for a few days so I am home alone, and skiving off early meant I got a chance to do a run. It was v hot today. For Edinburgh that is. Did the first half of last nights sprintelope then a lap of the meadows. Legs tired.

Road running 31:19 [3] 4.0 mi (7:50 / mi)

2 mile before, 2 miles after.

11 AM

Orienteering - race 43:41 [3] 5.23 mi (8:21 / mi)

South Queensferry urban - women’s open

Was v tired and not that mad for it, but glad I went out as the course was fun. Accidentally went up someone’s drive on the way to 8 and had to back track, wasn’t really on it to 12 and 13, and at both 4 and 17 I had to stop and unfold me map to see which side of the wall the control was on as I didn’t take descriptions.

Found it quite hard to breathe today, and didn’t feel I was running at all fast, so was glad to draw with Rog and not be too far behind Will.

Trail running 6:32 [3] 0.8 mi (8:10 / mi)

Warm up going from Lucy’s start to mine.

Saturday Jun 1, 2019 #

9 AM

Tempo run 27:27 [3] 4.0 mi (6:52 / mi)

Wasn’t mad for this as it was a bit too early for my tired legs, but it fitted in well as Lucy was doing football on the meadows. Just had to get on with it.

4 miles tempo.

6.54
6.48
6.49
6.54

Only need to keep it going for another 9 and a bit miles and the goal is reached.

Road running 10:20 [3] 1.15 mi (8:59 / mi)
