Spent the whole day socialising. Pumpkin making, lunch at the neighbours, a walk with the neighbours, Halloween party at the neighbours, took the kids guising. Massive fun had by all.

Tinto twin.

It was fun. Got to 7, then pulled a calf. Bummer. Very slight, but I have learned my lesson, and stopped immediately. Hope I can still XC next weekend, and go to the lakes the weekend after.

Saturday Oct 24, 2015 #

Off-road running 20:00 [3] 1.5 mi (13:20 / mi)
slept:9.0

Warm up down. Token effort due to childcare getting in the way.
2 PM

XC / road / hill race 17:04 [3] 4.0 km (4:16 / km)

National XC relay champs.

I dug out my XC spikes, clapped off the Falkirk (national XC 2013?) gravel, and set off to glorious Cumbernauld. There will be no shirking XC this year, as Ray has me in his HBT fantasy XC league team. Oh dear. I thankfully managed to reassure Rachel H that I was no way fit enough for the first team, so was with Eilidh (injured) and Eilis (pregnant). Eilidh did fine on first leg, and I went out with lots of weaker runners ahead of me, so I was passing all the time. It was truly horrific though. I haven't dusted off my brown for ages, and it showed. I survived though, and that's the main thing. I was chuffed to have popped my XC cherry for the season. Lots of training to do though. Such an ironic time to get athletes foot!

I'm going to have to get some insoles for my plantar fasciitis. I am struggling to walk now. Any tips are welcome.

Friday Oct 23, 2015 #

7 AM

Cycle commute 1:00:00 [3] 4.0 mi (15:00 / mi)
slept:7.0

Wanted to go running today, but there was not enough time available to go. Friday's are always v tight for time.

Thursday Oct 22, 2015 #

Note
(rest day)

Sore legs. I was trying to work out what the problem might be, but it occurred to me that maybe four days of running in a row after not a lot is probably enough. Esp with my knee swelling up again yesterday.
8 AM

Cycle commute 1:00:00 [3] 4.0 mi (15:00 / mi)
slept:7.0

Mmmm. Headwind. 50-60mph.

Wednesday Oct 21, 2015 #

7 AM

Cycle commute 1:00:00 [3] 4.0 mi (15:00 / mi)
slept:6.0

Asthmatic kids up all night, then a headwind all the way - the morning was improved by meeting Fran on the canal.
12 PM

Trail running 36:21 [3] 4.8 mi (7:34 / mi)

Legs and stomach felt terrible, like all of the other runs this week.
5 PM

Road running 28:26 [3] 3.7 mi (7:41 / mi)

Portobello swimming lesson sprint. Calves getting tight, left knee swelling a bit. Same old, same old....

Tuesday Oct 20, 2015 #

Road running 1:05:00 [3] 8.0 mi (8:07 / mi)
slept:13.5

Portobello. Feeling ill.

Saturday Oct 17, 2015 #

Note

Lots of things with the kids over the holidays. Feeling crappy, usual, blah, blah, blah, so on mission to recover went to bed at 5:30 on Saturday and slept until 7 then next morning. It helped I think. More focus needed on doing the right things to recover.

Wednesday Oct 14, 2015 #

11 AM

Off-road running 32:01 [3] 3.1 mi (10:20 / mi)

On that hill inbetween Kincraig and Aviemore with the Obelisk on it. Would make amazing orienteering, but full of grouse shooting, so very much doubt permission would be granted.

Tuesday Oct 13, 2015 #

5 PM

Trail running 31:03 [3] 3.6 mi (8:37 / mi)

The jog to and back from Inshriach.

Orienteering - training 46:21 [3] 5.2 mi (8:55 / mi)
slept:8.0

A jaunt around inshriach for old times sake. I headed to the patchwork forest with the hope of a bit of chanterelle hunting, but was unsuccessful. Probably a bit late in the day. Legs felt a bit weary, but we dragged the kids up Cairngorm in the morning. The descent was probably the worst bit, playing the traditional game of race the train kills quads.

Sunday Oct 11, 2015 #

10 AM

Road running 23:00 [3] 2.3 mi (10:00 / mi)

To the Kincraig shop and back with Lucy pedalling beside.
2 PM

Trail running 1:23:06 [3] 10.2 mi (8:09 / mi)
slept:7.5

Very-shortly-post-lunch run from the cottage to the rothimurcus estate shop to buy some lemon curd. Fran was cycling alongside. The early miles were pretty nifty as she was going well on the inshriach tracks. She slowed up when it narrowed towards Loch an Eilian. Phew. Lunch was trying desperately to make a re-appearance. I shouldn't have had that second (straight from the oven, with cream AND jam) scone.

Ray had easimated the route to be 8 miles, so those extra 2.2 miles felt far. Foot suitably f'ed now.

Ps pretty maps of my runs on strava. No segments though. Ray wants to make some, just so he can beat me.

Saturday Oct 10, 2015 #

8 PM

Road running 32:34 [3] 4.0 mi (8:09 / mi)
slept:6.0

Showing Fran how I can train straight after dinner, in the dark. Up glen feshie and to Uath Lochans. I was going to do the white forest trail. It was shut for forestry work. F that, I thought and ran on, only to see that by forestry work they meant taking up the duckboards. Nah. Ran back and down the road a bit, running hard to try to make 8min miles.

Friday Oct 9, 2015 #

12 PM

Cycle commute 30:00 [3] 2.0 mi (15:00 / mi)
slept:7.0

Cycle home. I didn't strava it. What a waste. Mega late setting off from work for school's ludicrous 12:15 Friday pick up. It's always a race on the best of days. Visions of crying kids in the playground. I absolutely gunned it the whole way.

I think I am getting exhausted. Ill today still.
7 PM

Off-road running 1:01:00 [3] 5.2 mi (11:44 / mi)

Run to Eilidhs for trotettes. I drove to Swanston and ran from there over some hills, through a lot of tussocks. Nice. Tough. First full power head torch run.

Tuesday Oct 6, 2015 #

Cycle commute 1:00:00 [3] 4.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

Trail running 47:04 [3] 5.76 mi (8:10 / mi)

I think this is a new pb. That doesn't mean I am at all fit, just a bit inspired. Still feeling ill.

Sunday Oct 4, 2015 #

Note
slept:10.0

Ill. Not drink related.

Saturday Oct 3, 2015 #

10 AM

Trail running 25:00 [3] 2.5 mi (10:00 / mi)
slept:5.0

I have GOT to go training more. I am at risk of RRR out-training me!

Not much sleep. Driving Ray and Sarah ON around for the fife coastal relay. Ray took over from Sarah at 4:30. Not much sleep. Ladies team had dropped out due to an attack of faderisim. Shame. Not really, as I got to go to Dan and Hazel's wedding race instead. Missed the start, got lost, but has fun anyway. Round the bog and up and down.

Trail running 37:16 [3] 2.7 mi (13:48 / mi)

Do I was catching up with the perma injured Al Hindle at the end of the trotter love race and he was bemoaning how miserable it was that people kept beating his strava goals and he is too crocked to do anything about it. I had wanted to do two thinks on Arthur's seat. To try a new route to the top, and to see how long the upper road to crows hill segment takes me. This run did both. The new AS ascent is a dick wall route apparently, and is suitably scary. I wasn't going to upset Al with adding my time to strava, but my watch malfunctioned (ie I forgot to look at the time when I started) and I had to add it to strava to see the time. 5:27 to his 5:58 (and Rachel H's 5:05, Ray's 4:33, and Nixon's 3:41). Sorry Al!

First time on strava and I don't think I'll do it again. Addictive!

7 AM

Cycle commute 1:00:00 [3] 4.0 mi (15:00 / mi)
slept:6.0

Woken at 5:30 by Lucy, so in a shit mood all day. At least I have 2 days off work. It's mega stressful. I need to get running again for the stress relief, getting :-( with the lack of training.

Thursday Oct 1, 2015 #

Cycle commute 1:00:00 [3] 4.0 mi (15:00 / mi)
slept:5.5

I was planning to run yesterday, but bonked badly on my cycle home (FFS - it is only 8 miles. How ridiculos, so I must be ill still).

Feeling a bit better this morning. Not much sleep as I was writing a WOC article for ESOC. Trying to condense 5 WOCs into one article. I sent it off at 1am, too tired to proof read. Please excuse if it is drivel...

More bikers with helmets hanging off their handlebars yesterday. I am seriously thinking of forming a 'Lucy Ward research foundation', and stopping to quiz these cyclists in the name of 'research' as to why they do it. I mean if I claim to be a researcher, as opposed to just nosey, they'd be more inclined to fill me in, rather than just tell me to f-off. Then I got to thinking about all of the other questions I'd like to 'research'.
