8 AM

Road running 27:40 [3] 3.2 mi (8:39 / mi)

Run before a long trip home on the train. Coughing. Snot. Wheezy. I'll take the day off tomorrow. Too soon still.

Cross training 5:10:00 [3] 36.0 mi (8:37 / mi)

Gawd mountain biking is a shit sport! I forget quite how shit it is, and occasionally need reminding. Jesus wept it is so shit! Ray was doing a long run and wanted me to cycle beside him. It was off road alas, around the North downs way. I spent a third of the time skidding in a not-at-all-controlled fashion through mud, a third of the time trying to work out where the fuck the 'bridleway' went through various golf courses (they had been hidden, to try to dissuade you from using them) and another third of the time trying to dislodge some of the mud that was preventing my wheels from turning at all. At one point I was carrying my bike down a field as the wheels refused to budge, in the vain hope of finding a stick to dislodge some of the crap at the bottom. Only my trainers were giving me no traction so I was skidding with a bike on top of me down a hill.

All those injured people that try to persuade themselves that mountain biking can be fun - just don't bother. You'll only get more depressed! Sit at home and stick pins in your eyes. It will be just as rewarding and much more fun.

Wallington, Happy Valley (ha - how ironic!!), north downs to box hill where Ray met the kids, Epsom racecourse, then titting around some bridleways home.

Note

Finally getting over my Christmas flu, and feeling like I am coming back from the dead. 30mins skateboarding practice this morning. I think I'll spend a lot of this afternoon googling how to stop!
5 PM

Road running 21:00 [3] 2.5 mi (8:24 / mi)

Slow jog limited to 20 mins due to calf still being troublesome (and chest still tight). More skateboarding this afternoon.

Thursday Dec 24, 2015 #

Note

Getting iller still. Pretty sure this is flu. Made it up Arthur's seat with the kids and jj, but thought I was going to die.

Wednesday Dec 23, 2015 #

Note

Still ill. Today's activities were limited to cycling to the meadows and around with the kids. More blood tests in the new year, until then, taking it easy.

8 AM

Road running 24:00 [3] 2.6 mi (9:14 / mi)

This really was the lamest excuse for a run ever. I woke up with no kids. Ray was off to run 36 miles. I was going to come too, but as I got to the pub at 6 the night before, and was still doing vodka shots at 2am, I thought I might be a bit of a liability.

I jogged to post some Christmas cards, and then ran our of energy at the canal, so dropped in to see tessa. She listened to me spouting jibberish with great manners, and after about an hour I set off walking to town to buy some presents, and started to sober up :-(

By mid afternoon I decided I could legally drive, so went to pick up the van from the far side of the meadows. By now I felt really shit so I took Laurence's scooter as I felt too lazy to walk. I think I have damaged my calf even more when I hit a curb and went flying. Hmm. Must try growing up soon.

Note
(sick)

Same old mystery illness. Muscle / joint ache, fever, headache, nausea...

Thursday Dec 17, 2015 #

5 PM

Road running 44:59 [3] 5.7 mi (7:54 / mi)

Running home from work. The soles of my feet are still numb, but things seem to be progressing as the skin is dying, hence blisters! Nice. I got to about dvc and met a neighbour, so walked home with him.
7 PM

Off-road running 45:00 [3] 5.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

To dvc, then down to long shorts, and back via the bog. That was the extent of my grand hbt wassail 2015. Short, but all the same. My calf was really crap all day.

There was a nice new orienteering song. The sport being summed up with the rhyme 'shite' and 'trite'. The love us really ;-)

Wednesday Dec 16, 2015 #

1 PM

Off-road running 37:02 [3] 4.8 mi (7:43 / mi)

Lunch time escape.

Tuesday Dec 15, 2015 #

5 PM

Road running 51:00 [3] 6.4 mi (7:58 / mi)

Home from work. Gotta get a new job! Numb feet = no pf pain. Result! My hip flexor tightened on the way home, which is usually a precursor to a calf pull. I think I got home just in time.

Monday Dec 14, 2015 #

Note

New injury. I seem to have got frostbite on the soles of both feet, quite a few of my toes, and a thumb. Not serious - no swelling - but completely numb. I'll just take it easy for a few days.

Cycle commute 3:30:00 [3] 45.0 mi (4:40 / mi)

One of my best HBT friends has recently been declared crocked for life (sore knee? advanced arthritis - nice) so she was going to cycle to the xc at chirnside, and was wanting some company. My calves are really bad just now, so I joined her.

First freezing morning of winter. Really nice route over Lammermuirs, but there was a lot of ice on the roads. Fun. My hands and toes though, ohmigod they were cold, and I still seem to be hungover from an epic on friday night as I felt gag-tastic so ate nothing the whole way. Stopped before I bonked, thankfully.

I am coming to the conclusion that if I am ever to get my calves to run again I am going to have to do some of that s&c / stretching shit I have been avoiding all of my life. I think this is what being old is all about.

Thursday Dec 10, 2015 #

Note

Calf shot, again. TEDIOUS! Just as well work is so unbelievable stressful I don't have time for running anyway.

Wednesday Dec 9, 2015 #

Off-road running 1:00:00 [3] 6.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Garmin out of battery. Trotettes swap Pinot Grigio for gluhwine on annual run-ending-up-at-the-Christmas-market. It was painful. Calf much worse today. I think probably the problem was I didn't drink enough to numb the pain.

Tuesday Dec 8, 2015 #

6 PM

Off-road running 47:28 [3] 4.1 mi (11:35 / mi)

Dropped Lucy off at rainbows, then had an hour to play with. Through pollock, over the crags, haggis knowe, the summit, back to haggis knowe, up the bog and back. My calves only just held out. The rest of my body felt shocking though. Pleased to have run all the hills. That's a result with my woeful levels of fitness.

Sunday Dec 6, 2015 #

10 AM

XC / road / hill race 41:48 [3] 5.36 mi (7:48 / mi)

I won a race! Yay (it was a handicap!)! But I wrecked my calf. Boo!

Saturday Dec 5, 2015 #

Note

Not ill so much as really lazy. Getting some CVs off, which is always cheering. My current job is easy and flexible and well paid but dull, and workload had increased a lot recently, and keeps increasing as more team members go off sick with stress, and I got a parking ticket at work recently cause they changed the permits but didn't tell me as I don't usually drive. They cancelled it, but made a real song and dance about how grateful I should be to them. Grr. Not good. Next job will be in town.

Friday Dec 4, 2015 #

Note
(sick)

Still ill. Work just goes from bad to worse too.
