Trail running 45:09 [3] 5.0 mi (9:02 / mi)

One of those horrid runs where you feel dead at the outset, but think you will feel better after a bit, but never do. Urgh!

Along the canal, up Craiglockhart hill and back.

Thursday Mar 30, 2017 #

8 AM

Trail running 32:37 [3] 3.25 mi (10:02 / mi)

Teeny training window.

To work via the scenic diversion of Salisbury Crags and Cowgate.

Wednesday Mar 29, 2017 #

5 PM

Trail running 1:04:34 [3] 7.0 mi (9:13 / mi)

Home from work via canal, then 7 mills route anticlockwise. V nice evening for it.

Tuesday Mar 28, 2017 #

Cross training 25:46 [3]

Lunch swim. 1k. Timed it this time.

Cross training 30:00 [3]

I have been struggling this last week. I was totally exhausted on Saturday but had get up early for football, and then rush home and go for a hill walk (nice, when your back is killing, and two moany kids are dragging on for arms) and then rush home and out to some friends, and then rush home and go out for dinner, then Sunday morning and I had to get up at the crack of dawn to take Laurence to swimming cause ray was too ill (you don't think it could have been the copious amount of beer you drank???). Yup, happy mother's day, got Lozza too the pool for 8 on the day the clocks go back, then sat in the stands slowly dying of exhaustion. So I spent the rest of mother's day in bed, with the duvet pulled over my head trying desperately to pull myself together. But it seemed to have worked, as i managed to go swimming at lunchtime today. the lifeguard told me the pool (Dalry) is 22.8m long. My 22.8 times table was ticking over as I swam, and I did 44 lengths, which is just over 1k. All front crawl.

Physic tomorrow.

Trail running 55:38 [3] 6.9 mi (8:04 / mi)

Lunchtime. Not mad for it. Busy and a bit disillusioned at work. A run always makes things better though, and we had nice weather for once. Up the canal, and up the (muddy) water of leith for a bit until a Doberman wanted to play with me. Felt ok.

Thursday Mar 23, 2017 #

Note
(rest day)

2nd 5am start in a row. Bed instead of running

Wednesday Mar 22, 2017 #

8 AM

Trail running 59:29 [3] 6.5 mi (9:09 / mi)

Up at 5, flew to N Ireland, James picked me and Fran up at the airport and we went for a family jog on Divis hill, the big one above Belfast. I felt terrible, very ploddy, but it blew some cobwebs away. Very windy indeed.

Tuesday Mar 21, 2017 #

8 AM

Trail running 14:00 [3] 1.7 mi (8:14 / mi)

Jog to work. Oh I think I have broken my back. Cancel all other training plans for the day.

Monday Mar 20, 2017 #

Road running 45:03 [3] 5.3 mi (8:30 / mi)

From work to the castle esplanade (one of my favourite mid-run-stop-to-admire-the-glorious-view places) then down the length of the Royal Mile to the parliament and onto the Queen's drive clockwise home, then back to school to get Lucy's bike.

Very windy, and everywhere vaugely off-road is bog just now. Change of weather needed!

Sunday Mar 19, 2017 #

2 PM

Off-road running 1:15:14 [3] 6.8 mi (11:04 / mi)

A more benign hill, with a track from most of it before heathery / boggy trod. Creag Bheag. I thought I had reached the highest bit, but strava tells me not. Mind you strava says there are paths on the hill, which is complete crap.

Saturday Mar 18, 2017 #

2 PM

Off-road running 1:35:00 [3] 7.0 mi (13:34 / mi)

Up a Munro near Newtonmore. It was ridiculously boggy, and the path (intermittent trod) was one big river. Snow on top too. The wind got up at the top and the must came in - glad I took a proper waterproof and map and compass.

Friday Mar 17, 2017 #

12 PM

Trail running 1:28:51 [3] 9.4 mi (9:27 / mi)

Long jog. Blackford hill, hermitage, Braidburn valley, Swanston, braids, home.

Thursday Mar 16, 2017 #

Note

My Grandmother died today. Sad news. She was 98, and had lived a long mainly very heathy life. She was great fun - never a dull moment with Grannie - witty, intelligent, charismatic, a fiercely competitive card / scrabble player but also appreciative of talented play in others - and a notoriously dire baker. She taught me so much, and was a great role model. Cheers Grannie!

Wednesday Mar 15, 2017 #

Road running 46:31 [3] 5.2 mi (8:57 / mi)

Work running club jaunt. Slow pace but that suited me. Left calf flared up overnight, but was ok with this run.

Tuesday Mar 14, 2017 #

1 PM

Intervals - long endurance 1:00:29 [3] 7.64 mi (7:55 / mi)

meadow laps

8 x 3mins with 1 min. Very windy indeed. I was a bit worried that a tree might hit me.

Monday Mar 13, 2017 #

5 PM

Trail running 48:05 [3] 5.27 mi (9:07 / mi)

Braids and Blackford jaunt. Nice.

Sunday Mar 12, 2017 #

11 AM

Orienteering - race 54:57 [3] 4.6 mi (11:57 / mi)

Tentsmuir csc blue women

Clean-ish but still very unfit. Dead at the end. This is very depressing. I am struggling to enjoy the sport when I am so shit at it. And if it is not enjoyable, why bother???

Saturday Mar 11, 2017 #

9 AM

Road running 43:42 [3] 5.44 mi (8:02 / mi)

Meadows lappage as Lucy played her first ever match. They lost 3-0 against Sciennes. This is a decent result for Preston Street. Lozza's team have played for 18 months, and haven't ever won a match .... until today! 6-5 against Bonaly. It was very exciting indeed. Laurence thought the funniest thing was that the Dads were so excited that they were all hugging each other. So proud of their perseverence, and the way that they have never once let the (many) defeats get them down or spoil their enjoyment. A lesson I could learn from.

Easy lap then two tempos (both 10 mins I think) then another easy one.
3 PM

Trail running 35:00 [3] 4.0 mi (8:45 / mi)

Dalkeith country park while the kids were at cycling club. That place has changed beyond recognition in the past few years. Lucy took me around the adventure playground after.

Friday Mar 10, 2017 #

Road running 26:00 [3] 3.2 mi (8:07 / mi)

To work and back. Busy at lunch and tired later.

Insomnia + stress + tired = :-(

Thursday Mar 9, 2017 #

Note

When you are running badly those weekly emails from BOF about ranking points sound increasingly sarcastic. "Congratulations" the latest one said, "you have achieved xxxx (just about scraping into 4 figures, weepingly lamentable) ranking points". This was my 15th best score in the past 12 months, apparently. I can't believe I have actually been orienteering 15 times in the past year.
12 PM

Intervals - short and speedy 38:52 [3] 4.8 mi (8:06 / mi)

Reps around the meadows - 8 x 2 mins with 1 min.
5 PM

Road running 13:46 [3] 1.7 mi (8:06 / mi)

Jog home

Wednesday Mar 8, 2017 #

12 PM

Trail running 41:22 [3] 4.8 mi (8:37 / mi)

Work running club.

Around Blackford hill and back. Nice sunny day.

Tuesday Mar 7, 2017 #

1 PM

Intervals - long endurance 1:02:08 [3] 7.0 mi (8:53 / mi)

Inverleith park reps

8min, 6 min, 4, 3, 2, 1 with 90 secs for the first two and 1 min for the others. Grass reps, wore spikes which felt good. Nice to catch up with Chloe C on the jog back up the hill too. I did feel really very slow though.

Foot fine.

Sunday Mar 5, 2017 #

12 PM

Trail running 30:13 [3] 2.7 mi (11:12 / mi)

Warm up / down.

Orienteering - race 1:01:11 [3] 4.8 mi (12:45 / mi)

Sol 1 Mugdock

And this is the day when I break the 10 mile running thing. Sore top-of-foot and ceased up joints left any running on uneven surfaces really quite painful. So that's the whole race then. Tired, tired, tired. I caught Colin/David Eades up half way, and the chit chat made the rest of the race fun.

So lesson learnt. Looking forward to doing some more productive training, if I haven't done serious damage to my foot that is.

Saturday Mar 4, 2017 #

3 PM

Road running 1:30:00 [3] 11.0 mi (8:11 / mi)

Oh dear. The 10 miles a day rolls on.

I was tired and stroppy on setting off, and not particularly mad for it. I headed to Portobello, then joppa, down the prom and back along the prom far enough to make up the distance when I get home. The miles ticked by nicely after a while, and my legs felt ok but the rest of my body felt shite.

Friday Mar 3, 2017 #

Note

I am considering running M40 at the jk. I am pretty unfit so prizes aren't an issue, but would like a valid result. Anyone know if I would be disqualified?
1 PM

Road running 50:45 [3] 6.26 mi (8:06 / mi)

Haymarket, Roseburn Cyclepath to Granton Rd, then through Inverleith Park back to work.
6 PM

Road running 33:49 [3] 4.02 mi (8:25 / mi)

Meadows laps.

Now that I have actually entered M40 I'd better plan some training, rather than just 10miles plod a day. 6 week training plan coming up.

Thursday Mar 2, 2017 #

5 PM

Road running 42:31 [3] 5.0 mi (8:30 / mi)

Nipped out of work early for a jog home. tight calves. Story of my life.

Off-road running 56:09 [3] 5.0 mi (11:14 / mi)

Arthurs Seat. dry Dam. Dassies, Crags and up cow gate.

Wednesday Mar 1, 2017 #

12 PM

Road running 56:53 [3] 7.0 mi (8:08 / mi)

Corstrphine hill loop. Lovely and I bumped into Raph, Adam Ward and Graham Beale. Everyone out in the sun.
5 PM

Trail running 31:55 [3] 3.4 mi (9:23 / mi)

Home from work taking in a lap of the bog. Nice
