Orienteering - race 1:22:00 [3] 8.1 km (10:07 / km)

Graythwaite Brown. I run brown not short brown as short brown is usually too short. This brown was about a perfect distance. My magnifier came off my compass on the jog to the start so went without. Could have done with it in places. Dropped time getting to number 2, hacking through grot, and at number 8, stopping too early. Not happy with my long route when executing it but it was fastest so what do I know! Took a gel at the start of the long leg.

Dropped time at 14. Veg wasa bit odd near the control, and it seemed a long way to the control. I stoped short. 15 I was perfect but my fine nav let me down and I was about 10m off but didn't see it. 16 I rushed, and blundered through. The rest was fun though. Time checked coming out of the green, and thought i couldn't get Al's time, but the Simpson brothers times were do-able, so picked up the pace and took a few more risks ... and ended up getting Al too. Brilliant! Most satisfying victory for ages.

Proper orietneering, for properly tough people. What fun. It was hard to stay on my feet in the mud of the first third though, so i am going to buy some VJ's as they have slightly longer dobbs.

Achillies hurt all the way but not the next morning. Odd. Rest Monday, reps Tuesday, and it is now Wednesday, and things aren't good. Might o out later to see if losening it up helps. I have asked for a new foam roller and a wobble board for my 26th birthday next week.

Orienteering - race 32:34 [3] 3.7 mi (8:48 / mi)

Esthwaite intake. Brown women. Great course. First proper tricky middle I have done for ages. A few wobbles at 2, then on the way to 5 I was totally distracted by coming past a knoll in a ride, and not beign able to see it on the map. It was number 16 I found out later, but was really confused. The map was hard to read here. Other big time loss came from getting offline going to 12 due to the windblow, and being too far left. Silly. I dropped 3 mins in all, which is a bit much really, but I was happy as I'd had so much fun. Great fun, great fight, a real challenge.

Achillies hurtign all the way :-(
