Orienteering - race 52:30 [3] 7.9 mi (6:39 / mi)

10Mila 2nd leg.

Ok so my achillies has not been great recently. I ran from Nick's in Stockholm on Thursday and from HOK stugan on Friday, and the achillies seemed to like the terrain. Slight pain but nothing too troubling. So I ran 10mila.

1st leg was Andrea Svensson, the 16 year old who ran up at the Swedish champs a few weeks ago and won d18e ultra long and was 2nd in d18e sprint. Pretty good but this was a lot of pressure on a young girl and she came in about 4 mins down in 77th. I set off and took a british route to my number 1 (227), taking no one with me on a long track route, but was pleased to get one of the fastest splits. 1-2 (201) was a bit left of the line and ended up on the track just right of the road, but ok. Straight to 207. Next one was seriously tricky 76 and I was very hesitant. 202, 210 fine. The next one, 217 I got ahead of the pack and ended up a few hundred metres left, but relocated fine. dropped 30secs. Was going well here. 211 fastest, 212 was a long leg and I was back with the pack here. After getting ahead to 217 then going offline, I sat in for a bit. They were taking a seriously odd route though, and I realised I had a control no one else had at all. I was 1:30secs off the fastest here, but it must have been more like 2 mins. Fastest to 51 and back with the pack even though I gave my achillies a serious jolt when my toe had a rock under it and my heel didn't, so coming out of 51, when we hit a track, something went very badly wrong with my achillies / calf. Staggered around the rest of the course and over the line. I'd taken us from 77 - 33

To Helena, who ran strongly in 3rd, and took us to 13, to Lillian who had a blinder to come in 8th, to Simone who did her stuff, and brought us back in 3rd, even though she got ahead of Halden to 2nd with 1 control to go, and made her only slight mistake of the race. She was annoyed - we weren't complaining!

Learnt a lot about pack running here. Should have had confidence in what I do, and my techniques and routes in this terrain, as it would have been better and faster for me. The splits where I did the best were the ones where I was on my own. All in all, a not great run but a good experience. Toni tells me I needed my vj's on. He was a great help at the finish getting ice, drinks, bananas, bandages etc, tho I am not sure my kids really appreciated the salmiak sweets. Their faces were pretty funny.

Back ot square one with the achillies. Frustrating. I have a few weeks with nothing on now though, so I can concentrate on getting back to running. We'll see how it goes, but I might have to re-assess summer plans if things don't improve soon. Ray is sourcing a turbo trainer.

Orienteering - race 38:00 [3] 4.5 mi (8:27 / mi)

Sol3. Short blue due to sore achillies, which was painful, but I managed to ignore it quite well. 1 nice run up the hill (that's being crocked for ages, well rested). Was too low, near the control on the re-entrant, but knew instantly where I was.

2 fine
3 was a bit high on the traverse, so I had to drop loads to cross the river.
4 fine
5 not really up for it enough to run the whole hill
6 fine
7 was a but worried the green marsh was the marsh beyond the control but it wasn't and I was fine.
8 easy
9 easy
10 easy
11fine
12 fine
The rest all fine. Jogged the last one and to the finish as was feeling lazy!
