XC / road / hill race 29:56 [3] 4.4 mi (6:48 / mi)
slept:8.0

Last borders league XC, Dunbar.

After surviving yesterday, and waking up feeling even stiffer today, I was taking a little easier than normal, esp at the start. Not mad for XC this year, but if was less painful than other races. Now only the national XC to survive.

Off-road running 10:00 [3] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Warm up / down.

Orienteering - training 1:05:00 [3] 8.0 mi (8:07 / mi)
slept:7.0

Seds sprint training. Great training put on by GG. I do sprint so very rarely as I am scared of getting injured, and esp as everything felt tight yesterday. But no this training was great. Mass start, I was pushing quite hard navigating well and feeling fresh and strong. Maybe I can do more sprint again next year.

Orienteering - training 1:16:49 [3] 5.43 mi (14:09 / mi) +347m 11:48 / mi

Including warm up and down. Auchingarrich. Tough. Good orienteering, just lost time in the circle looking for the controls, which were canes with reflective yellow on and v hard to spot. Chunking well, but hard to stop myself looking at the map when I should have just been running.

Uploading from Garmin for the first ever time. How exciting.

Note

I feel quite fit and injury free just now when I am out for a run, yet when I am in the playground, in my jeans and trainers, and Laurence and his friends challenge me to a race around the school, I can barely move. I might have to build this into my training, the ability to run 100m hard from standing, with no warm. I can't possibly let them beat me!

Road running 47:37 [3] 5.88 mi (8:06 / mi)
slept:8.0

Same as last Friday night. Nice. Everything is tight though. Calves, hamstrings, glutes, hips. Worried about sprint training tomorrow.

Hills 1:03:00 [3] 7.8 mi (8:05 / mi)
slept:5.0

Lucy up all night.

Working from home today. Castro 3 min hills again. After 5 I had bad stomach cramps, so went home, then I felt better so got back out up blackford hill. Lovely day. Felt good.
9 PM

Armchair training 45:00 [0]

With Nick, then a bit more by myself. I forget how much I gain from this stuff, esp when Nick is there to question the routes I would have taken, and offer other options. Hopefully now the worst of the January-working-as-a-tax-advisor stress is over for me I will have a bit more time in the evenings to do some more.

Orienteering - training 50:17 [3] 5.0 mi (10:03 / mi)
slept:7.0

I was going to run in the day, but was a bit tired from Tuesday's efforts. My legs feel tight and niggly. This is either from running hard on hard surfaces, or the slippiness around everywhere, or not cycling.

Falkirk wheel stealth. Got off at the wrong ststion and walked for 50mins hard with a heavy bag to get there. Luckily duncan coombs was still titting around getting ready, holding everyone up. Good to see such a good crowd - Fraser, Jamie, Spongey, Duncan, thr Gyrko-Gristwoods. Shame Jase missed it with a breakdown - cheers for the courses. The area has some of the most 'subtle' dot knolls I've ever seen (or not seen), but I was planning well and orienteering calmly and accurately. Massive fun.

Note

Secured a Barrathon entry! OFY! 250 entries went in under 10mins and I just about remembered to get ours in. Gives me something in the summer to train for...
7 AM

Road running 35:00 [3] 3.2 mi (10:56 / mi)

Jogging about in a commuting fashion.
12 PM

Road running 1:07:46 [3] 10.0 mi (6:47 / mi)
slept:7.0

New PB. Icy, but v still, and I was pissed off with my slow park run, so was taking it out on this. Splits:

7:09, 7:05, 6:54, 6:45, 6:42 34:28
6:39, 6:41, 6:42, 6:47, 6:27 33:18

New Garmin 10 is good. It does just what I want it to, and not a lot else, which is good as it keeps the set up simple.

Think I possibly strained my achillies a v little bit yesterday going from princes street gardens to the castle espanade direct. A little too steep. I think I can just about maybe feel it.

Road running 1:03:29 [3] 7.5 mi (8:28 / mi)
slept:7.0

Feeling a bit shit. Very hectic at work, sleepless kids and still too cold to cycle. Tired and frazzled.

So instead of trying to jiggle work around so I can free myself to so the training I want this week, I decided to just take an extra half day this week. Which meant I could leave work at 11:30 not 2. So I jogged home over corstorphine hill, Ravelston Dykes, Deans which is all v nice. Run and become to buy a new pink garmin 10, up through princes street gardens to the esplanade, and home. Lovely, relaxing.
