Cawthorn and deffer brown. V tight chest but decided to run. When not really pushing it it was quite hard to stay interested, and the forest, even off last start was deeply unappealing. I'll try to get to the gp tomorrow. Thanks to Kim, Ricky and Nick for the logistical assistance.

Ps loved the v honest planners comments.

Off-road running 15:00 [3] 1.5 mi (10:00 / mi)

To the start and back.

Coughing all night and lungs bad now. Back to drs on Monday I think. Decided cruising pace would be the best option, esp with the nav, so ran slowly and smoothly except for the end where I lost concentration a bit. 3 mins lost at 7, 1 min at 12 and bits on all of the last few. Lungs pretty bad. Hmm. Enjoyed it though - more than the guy I heard shouting an almighty 'for fuck's sake!' at what must have been the start of his course. 10/10 for passion!

Intervals - short and speedy 40:00 [3] 4.85 mi (8:15 / mi)

Reps from work. 20 x 1min w 30secs. Felt good, I think.

I had a very funny morning run to Megan's to pick up the van this morning. Lucy decided she was going to come on the run with me. It is not much more than half a mile. She got her trainers on, her RTC t shirt etc. Great chat 'You go behind Mummy, as I am faster than you' etc. When she got tired she said 'I'm going to jog for a bit Mummy as if you do lots of jogging it makes you run faster'. Odd logic. Might have to do this again sometime.

It was a late night last night baking for trotettes which I am co-hosting tonight. Trying to separate egg yolks from egg whites at 11pm was particularly trying, and as a result we had 12 egg whites in the fridge this morning. I decided to make egg white scrambled eggs this morning, which is the sort of thing that's supposed to be really good for sportmen (high protein, low fat). It was really weird. We have scrabmled eggs most weekends, and having totally white scrambled eggs was quite hard to get your head around. Once we'd got past that it was ok though, and didn't taste too bad. I'd do it again. Ray tells me he'd sooner have meringues for breakfast. Next time...

Road running 45:00 [3] 5.5 mi (8:11 / mi)

Massively fun trotettes run - chatting all the way with Rachel.

slept:8.0

Itenburgh girls tonight was Rachel Mrs Haines and Megan M. Rachel wanted to do 8miles at 6:30/miling. I knew this would be a big ask as I had tight calves from yesterday and 6:30 miling for a hilly loop is quick for me so I stuck in for 4 miles then jogged the rest. Great training. Real motivation to get fitter so it doesn't hurt so much next time.

P.S. Sorry Tessa, this must be driving you nuts...

Road running 28:00 [3] 3.0 mi (9:20 / mi)

Jogging about before and after.

Still feeling a bit washed out from the recent illness and Laurence is not sleeping well at all so a bit of a change in emphasis this week to get some energy back. Quality training, and making life as easy as possible the rest of the time. I am not even trying to cycle commute this week - too unpredictable with the ice makes it stressful, and the arctic blast induces such a chill it is more physically draining than usual. Driving to work instead. Short sharp sessions. No excess miles. Trying to maximise my sitting down time.

Intervals - short and speedy 1:12:00 [3] 9.3 mi (7:45 / mi)

Jog to the seat, then Duddingston, Joppa, along the prom, and back via restalrig and Castro, doing fartlek of 2mins on 30secs off (fast / slow as opposed to v fast / stop). 8 miles took me to Holyrood, and I jogged back from there. Really tough coming back from the coast into a v strong and icy headwind.
