Cycle commute 45:00 [3] 3.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

I was talked into going mountain biking. I hated every minute, mainly cause I was on Ray's dad's bike which is so bad it is like an instrument of torture. My bike has a broken spoke, so is in for repair.

Road running 50:00 [3] 6.0 mi (8:20 / mi)

Single mumming this weekend so I had planned to simplify logistics for the weekend to preserve energy - less stress the better, I have no idea how single mums with endless kids don't go mad.

So drive everywhere. Except setting off for Laurence's football the van won't start. It's only liberton, we'll cycle. Except my bike is broken and in for repair. So I run, the kids cycle and we get there on time. Then Lucy and I need to get to judo. So back home (I cycle Laurence's bike, as he is going to a friends after and they are driving home) ditch stuff, pack judo stuff, I run and Lucy cycles to judo and home. The logistics of parenting are hilariously finely tuned.

Hmmm. Need to get the breakdown people out and rearrange this afternoons logistics too. My calf was painfree :-) My SI / hip less so.

Note

Not doing any physio until my hip is less sore, which sounds counterproductive but isn't. Nice afternoon going around harlaw with the neighbours, kids on bikes. Lucy cycled 10 miles today and did a judo session too, which is epic for her.

7 AM

Cycle commute 1:00:00 [3] 4.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

My hip was not feeling cooperative this morning.
4 PM

Road running 16:00 [3] 2.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Run to dance class and back. SI / hip playing up for the first time in years. Ah well, single parenting all this weekend so no opportunities for more running anyway.

Feeling shit. Tired and miserable. So the hearty faceful of hail 5mins in was actually quite a welcome refresher.

Note

My fitness is such that I've been thinking of nothing but Roy Hattersley MP on my two most recent runs. When HIGNFY replaced Roy Hattersley with a tub of lard it was as Roy Hattersley had dropped out at the last minute for the third time, they were unable to find a replacement, and it was thought that a tub of lard was "liable to give much the same performance and imbued with many of the same qualities" as Roy Hattersley. I keep mulling over who would come first in a race: me, Roy Hattersley or the tub of lard. The tub of lard most certainly is "liable to give much the same performance and imbued with many of the same qualities" as me just now.
5 PM

Road running 45:00 [3] 5.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

Jog down to the physio and back. More tape. All runs under 5 miles this week. It was sore, and I have been miserable all day which didn't help my frustration tolerance levels. Grr. Decide to do some road races, pick some that look good and they are all fully subscribed. It is so shit. Punters are suffocating our sport. Take the scottish 5k champs. There has always been entry on the night available in the past - not now. 500 people already signed up. If you aren't a member of a scottish athletic club (you know who you are), or aren't capable of running a decent 5k then you shouldn't get in. I could go on but probably best not. I am feeling particularly bitter. If you're injury-prone you simply can't enter things weeks in advance. If you are a total lazer that doesn't train hard enough to get injured, you can block book all the races, one every weekend, jogging around a half marathon in hours and hours. Right I really must stop, before I offend anyone left that I haven't offended yet.
