XC / road / hill race 1:42:19 [3] 13.1 mi (7:49 / mi)
Skye half.
Except it wasn't quite half marathon distance. 13.8. The first two miles I felt like I was running through treacle. Very crap. After that I just put my head down and the miles ticked off. I was aiming for even 8 min/miling, but there was a strong tail wind for the first half, so I stuck with low 7min/miling for the first half, knowing I would pay for it later. At 7.5 miles, we turned to get a face full of wind and rain for the rest of the marathon.
Right hip flexor died at 9 miles (spookily similar to Barra 2 years ago) and the last few miles is was a struggle to bring my right leg forward. Quite pleased with the way the miles ticked by nicely. We went to this so we could get a Heb 3 T-shirt, and I was exhausted at the start so getting around was the aim, and I was pleased to do so.
A quirk of the prizes (there were lots of spurious age classes, just like orienteering) meant I won F40-44. Smoked salmon and £20 of outdoor shop vouchers which was pleasing, and being part of 2nd ladies team (with Lucy T and Blonde Rachel) earned us a four pack of beer each.
We lucked out with being able to get Ali Robertson to childmind Lucy (Laurence was at a Cubs camp). We felt quite guilty on the way up cause she was hating the drive (Dunfermline - 'how much further?' Oh only 5 hours or so...) but she had a blast with Oli and Emily so all was good!
