9 PM

Trail running 48:00 [3] 5.0 mi (9:36 / mi)

Took Laurence around the light green at the orienteering and was dithering going out myself but Lucy cut her knee and needed to head off. Got to 9pm and the kids were in bed. Ray asked if I had reached the end of my “5 miles a day in 2018” plan which was enough to send me out. Arthur’s Seat was still very icy so after a lap of the big I bailed and headed up the Royal Mile (palace gates to Drawbridge 1:00 miles - pleasing). Then back through the meadows.

Road running 5:00 [3] 0.5 mi (10:00 / mi)

Token jog to start warm up

Orienteering - race 1:09:00 [3] 7.4 mi (9:19 / mi)

Big weekend. Big city race. Big fun.

Icy, so icy, so the course was voided, but we could still run it and it was great. Really liked the courses, felt fit and strong and pleased. Disq for missing out 5 & 7. They were on the line and didn’t see them. I did wonder when I got to 10 why we were at number 10 already. Liked the planning, Shame about the voiding. The ward family were all happy customers.

Road running 10:00 [3] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

To KB. Very slippery.

Orienteering - race 19:00 [3] 2.38 mi (7:59 / mi)

KB FWTN Short. Fun. Slippery. Ran through a LOT of grotty bushes as it was an advantage to do so and get some good grip.

Road running 10:00 [3] 1.48 mi (6:45 / mi)

Home with a bit of an extension. Slippery.

Orienteering - race 15:00 [3] 1.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

Graeme’s indoor race. The most fun I’ve had orienteering for a very long time indeed. Possibly since the epic snowy Touch FVO night event. Just hilarious. It played to my strength of quick thinking, although I was hampered by my laziness of not reading the details beforehand. I couldn’t work out why the stairwells seemed to have different letters.

Off-road running 41:08 [3] 4.3 mi (9:34 / mi)

Arthur’s Seat morning run. No new snow sadly, but this is probably good news for the stress levels of the Big Weekend team. And I still had a lovely time.

Trail running 9:15 [3] 1.0 mi (9:15 / mi)

Home over the meadows. Stopped at the wine shop to stock up for the weekend. Legs were jelly after the rowing

Cross training 10:00 [3]

BR charity committee organise an annual concept 2 rowing competition. 12 in a team, we had 5 teams in Edinburgh, 12 in London and 1 in Paris. When I took over for my stint we had a decent lead in Edinburgh, and the computers link to London had gone down so we don’t know how they were doing. I held the gap, doing 2:10 per 500m average. My rowing is shite though - such poor technique. Legs like jelly afterwards, and I left well before the end to get home for kids.

Off-road running 57:18 [3] 6.56 mi (8:44 / mi)

changed plans meant an evening run home from work, with no head torch. Headed to braids for some massively fun playing in the snow
