Trail running 52:00 [3] 6.0 mi (8:40 / mi)

I now find myself with an hour to kill in Alnwick Hill every Friday afternoon (Lucy has a class there, Laurence is otherwise entertained. This is bliss, as perfect base for jaunts on Braids. Great afternoon for it this week. Its days like this that make the 5 miles fly by.

Went to the GP about a lump on my lower calf. I got stung on day 4 of the big5-o. It was really stingy, and the calf muscles around all ceased up, and my achilles got stiff from it too. There is still a hefty, hard lump there. i was prodding it last night with a pin, and it turns out there is a thorn there, and it is a bit infected. The GP thinks I was bitten by a spider maybe, as she couldn't see the thorn (err, it is under that scab...) but said if it was a thorn then it is a trip to A&E to get it out if I can't (I can't, I have tried). An A&E consultant friend recommends minor injuries, but it all seems a bit melodramatic for a thorn. There must be some sort of suction tool a bit like a hoover that can do it. I need one of those dental assistant sucky saliva thingys.

Trail running 44:30 [3] 5.0 mi (8:54 / mi)

Down to Inverleith Park and some laps. Taking in the trim trail for the last bit. I was woeful. My T-Rex physique couldn't handle the monkey bars, or the chin up bar, or the parallel bar, or anything much other than the sit ups, but it was fun. Legs a bit f*d.

Road running 1:28:00 [3] 10.3 mi (8:33 / mi)

To trotettes, trotettes them home. Which was our house, round Queens drive to Willowbrae, Figgate Park, along the prom to Joppa, then turn and back through Restalrig and the bog. The bog was very boggy indeed. Stomach cramps tonight so not feeling great.

Road running 43:05 [3] 5.4 mi (7:59 / mi)

Late lunch running home to be back in time for the kids. Across the meadows to Queens drive, a lap them home. Toni used to do a time trial on Queens drive. From a rock on the left of the cycle path pavement near the dumbiedykes play park clockwise around the queens drive for almost 2.5 miles finishing at a rock on the left just before the road starts going down towards the Pollock roundabouts. I taught myself how to do a segment on Strava for it. I took 20:13 today, (torrential rain, windy) compared with 16:18 in October 2011. Blimey that's depressing!

Road running 42:15 [3] 5.25 mi (8:03 / mi)

Very tired and stiff. Steady shuffle around the meadows.

Trail running 48:00 [3] 5.0 mi (9:36 / mi)

Took Laurence around the light green at the orienteering and was dithering going out myself but Lucy cut her knee and needed to head off. Got to 9pm and the kids were in bed. Ray asked if I had reached the end of my “5 miles a day in 2018” plan which was enough to send me out. Arthur’s Seat was still very icy so after a lap of the big I bailed and headed up the Royal Mile (palace gates to Drawbridge 1:00 miles - pleasing). Then back through the meadows.

Road running 5:00 [3] 0.5 mi (10:00 / mi)

Token jog to start warm up

Orienteering - race 1:09:00 [3] 7.4 mi (9:19 / mi)

Big weekend. Big city race. Big fun.

Icy, so icy, so the course was voided, but we could still run it and it was great. Really liked the courses, felt fit and strong and pleased. Disq for missing out 5 & 7. They were on the line and didn’t see them. I did wonder when I got to 10 why we were at number 10 already. Liked the planning, Shame about the voiding. The ward family were all happy customers.
