XC / road / hill race 1:28:00 [3] 7.7 mi (11:26 / mi) +950m 8:16 / mi

Ben Lomond Hill race

Ben Lomond is a bit of a classic so had to be done. Hot sunny day and I was nervous. After the forest I was in 6th, then I gradually reeled in runners until I was 3rd at the top with two very close behind. I am such a shite descender I knew I was going to get caught so pushed and pushed and pushed - and didn’t. 3rd woman, first V40. Pleased.

Trail running 30:00 [3] 2.4 mi (12:30 / mi) +120m 10:49 / mi

Stagger with Oleg on the WHW through Ross Wood back to where he parked his car. Refreshing restorative dip in Loch Lomond prior to heading home.

Road running 55:59 [3] 7.13 mi (7:51 / mi)

Portobello, Joppa and along the front then Leith Links to the engravers. Bus home. Legs felt a bit more achey than I would have liked the day before Ben Lomond.

Road running 28:00 [3] 3.5 mi (8:00 / mi)

Home via Leonne’s to pick up the kids. Tired.

Road running 47:00 [3] 5.55 mi (8:28 / mi)

Felt ill all day today. Aches and sneezes. So I decided to jog home. I felt better when I got to the meadows, so headed around the Queens Drive. Not feeling at all perky, but got around.

Trail running 1:33:00 [3] 9.3 mi (10:00 / mi) +410m 8:48 / mi

Seathwaite campsite to Keswick. Ray takes the kids swimming in Keswick while I run there. Win win. nice run, and I don't have to go swimming. Unfortunately the pool didn't open until 12 though, so I got there just in time. Damn. I hit the wall a bit at 7 miles, and staggered the rest. A bit early to hit the wall really.

Off-road running 1:39:00 [3] 5.8 mi (17:04 / mi) +560m 13:08 / mi

Ray decided the Bob Graham round is not for him. He came to the realisation that he was just not enjoying plodding slowly round tough terrain for hours. A lot of Lakes terrain is no fun. i run for the speed, wind blowing in your hair, legs stretching out and having fun, admiring the view. A lot of the Bob Graham terrain is picking your way through hairy rock, and it is just tedious. I respect people that can say they are not enjoying things that they are supposed to and just pull out (I wish I had the guts to just not run xc any more) so I respect his decision.

AND it meant i could get a nice run in on another stonkingly hot day. We walked Ray up to the river pools we found the day before for swimming, then I ran on to Green Gable, then Great Gable, then down Great Gable (which was not fun at all) and along the corridor to Sca Fell a bit before turning. I wish I had enough time to run forever today, but family holidays have their restrictions. Back to cool off in the river. Lovely!
