Orienteering - race 13:47 [3] 1.92 mi (7:11 / mi)

Sprint Scotland race 1. Denny

My last sprintelope was Deans, and I jogged around half-heartedly allowing myself to fall for lots of traps and not really being bothered to pay attention and reminding myself how irritating sprint is. I got my mind in gear today, and ran more smoothly, though I ran from 2-7. Going into 7 I was planning my exit route to 4 and realized that I had stuffed up. Luckily 3 wasn’t too far away. Stuffed up the open, mainly cause only Megan had gone through the terrain before me, and I kept thinking ‘really, do I really have to run through this?’ rather than just getting on with it. The answer was no I should have possibly run around on the first open leg. Next one was ok then stuffed the one after by not engaging my brain. Ah well, it was more fun than expected.

Lucy had less fun though. One of the controls didn’t register, and she was totally devastated! ITS SO UNFAIR MUMMY!!! I WENT THERE!!! WHY DIDN’T IT WORK??? WHY??? WHY ME MUMMY!!! TELL THEM I WENT THERE MUMMY!!!

Orienteering - race 15:26 [3] 2.21 mi (6:59 / mi)

Sprint Scotland race 2. Denny

Similar sort of area, but the course didn’t suit me as much. Some long legs, which meant long stretches of running, which I don’t do fast at all. It took me a good 5 secs to work out how to pick my map off the tarmac, then navigated to 1 from Lucy’s first control rather than the start kite. I only realized this afterwards when I saw her punch it. Going alright until 8 where I left the control at the wrong angle, was on a path I didn’t want to be on, and got very confused. I went right to 11 which I think might have been wrong, spent ages faffing at 12 (tho everyone probably did) and went left to the bridge out of 12 followed by a long, slow I-am-way-too-unfit-for-this-route road run to 13. An ok run.

Lucy however again had an unfortunate time. Number 10 didn’t work this time. Cue the same devastation, the crying and ranting did not subside all the way home. :-(

I resisted the opportunity to tell her about my 3 x mispunches in the British sprint, middle and long in 2015. I would have liked to have had screamed all of the stuff that Lucy screamed at the time, but us adults are so restrained!

Trail running 10:00 [3] 1.1 mi (9:06 / mi)

All my warming up and down for the whole day. Hmm. Could do better.

Hills 48:29 [3] 5.01 mi (9:41 / mi)

Trotter training. Hills. I have felt good in training recently. Legs haven’t felt tired at all. Until about 10 metres into this when they were killing. The session was 7 x 2 mins up Observatory Road. I dropped out half way up the 6th as my calves were getting tighter and tighter.
