Cross training 15:00 [3]

Gymnastics thingy. Have almost mastered all of the moves. It has only taken me the whole week.

Road running 23:36 [3] 3.15 mi (7:30 / mi)

5k at 8 min miling. A bit swift for me this early before I realised that we were 7min miling at the start so a bit quick. Kept running at the end to get in the shower and pack for going home.

We’re coming back next year apparently, Lucy has decided already.

Pleased my dodgy Achilles managed this. My dodgy knee seems to have cleared up tho.

Off-road running 1:18:00 [3] 7.24 mi (10:46 / mi)

Interlopers were running up to a volcano for breakfast. I took the kids in the car, parked nearby and walked the last mile or so up, as did Jase and Janine. Of our party only Laurencemade the true top - I think Hannah lacked enough ballast in the strong wind and Matthew and Lucy were not mad for it so we breakfasted up a less airy top. Fun trip, but I was v cold by the end of it.

Got back, and thought I should jog to warm my hands up. I set off hoping to see some interlopers, which I did, and my first thing in the morning sore left Achilles felt good so I kept going, and ended up at the top of the mountain. Fun. Didn’t really go for any paths on the way back, just enjoying the fun terrain until it got rocky at the bottom which was very slow. Good practice for orienteering though.

Trail running 39:36 [3] 5.0 mi (7:55 / mi)

‘8k Off road run’

It was dusty and we went up a big hill and it was too early, but apart from that it was ok.

Cross training 15:00 [3]

The gymnasticy thing. I find this hard, but the only way I can convince my legs that they want to run.
10 AM

Cross training 30:00 [3]

Swimming. 30 mins. That’s more than I managed for the whole of 2018 in one session.

XC / road / hill race 19:21 [3] 2.8 mi (6:55 / mi)

Club La Santa triathlon

Did it in a team with Lozza and Kitty, a friend of Janes. Laurence stormed the swim - nearly beating Ray(!), Kitty valiantly battled the wind on the cycle, and I did the run. Didn’t feel eyeballs out, but still a tad disappointed that Paul ‘whole triathon’ Caban did a faster time than me, and Mo ‘60th birthday’ McIntrye seemed to be closing me down. My form seems to be getting much worse during the week.

Cross training 45:00 [3]

TRX for intermediates

I have done a bit of TRX when I used to do some trainingbat Dalry. It’s quite a simple way to get a good work out. This was an intermediate class, and there was quite a bit of the sort of abs stuff that my left hip flexor has flatly refused to do for the past 20 years so I had to skip some bits. Bloody boiling too.

Cycling 1:55:00 [3] 23.84 mi (4:49 / mi)

‘Ladies cycle’ it said. ‘Coffee stop’ it said. ‘2-2:30 hours’ it said. Sounds nice doesn’t it? Pippa, Lucy Galloway and I thought so, and signed up with about 10 others. We set off up the first hill, and by then one of the party wisely decided to bail. At the top of the hill we had to wait a while for a Belgian girl, who looked like she knew what she was doing but was struggling. She wanted to keep going so the leaders said fine. Down hill for 5 miles into a strong side wind, it was a bit iffy. Pippa, Lucy and I were packing in as close as we liked to the skittish other cyclists.

Then there was a long up hill. A very long up hill. Over 5 miles into a nasty headwind on a busy road. The Belgian soon went off the back, with a friend of hers not looking good either. Near the top of the hill we stopped to regroup, but the leader at the back of the pack eventually reported that the Belgian had been dropped, and he had asked her to get a taxi - yes a taxi - back to the resort! She was in a really bad way apparently.

It was supposed to be a sociable ride, or so we thought, so why was the pace so hard that people had been dropped? And why were we on a really busy main road for ages? And - most importantly - where was the fing cafe??? So Lucy, Pippa and I, - although by far not the weakest of the pack - decided to take the quickest route back, and find some ice cream on the way, because we were after all on holiday, and this cycle ride was definitely type II fun!

Cross training 15:00 [3]

Jogging about with the early morning aerobics. I find this really hard work, but takes you from physical activity being impossible, to it being a realistic prospect. Maybe this is what I need to do if I want to start morning running again.

Road running 24:10 [3] 3.14 mi (7:42 / mi)

The early morning 5k. Steady pace before Max made a break for the finish. Think Robin managed to reel him in. Then rest of the day a ‘rest day’ at the beach with non-CLS ‘normal’ friends.

Cycling 1:12:00 [3] 16.0 mi (4:30 / mi)

Road biking beginner group. Fun, if very windy.
2 PM

Cross training 1:00:00 [3]

Crazy class of the day - aerial stretching. Hanging upside down on ribbons suspended from the ceiling. Not really my thing. Hopefully won’t hurt my abs as much as yesterday’s hula hooping.
5 PM

Trail running 55:28 [3] 6.41 mi (8:39 / mi)

Run up to a ridge above Club La Santa and back. Warm!

Fartlek 10:35 [3] 1.09 mi (9:43 / mi)

My junior at work was a Glaswegian police officer (yeh, she is the toughest person I know) before seeing the light and changing to work in VAT. The bleep test was the nightmare for all that trained as police, and she refused to believe that you can go on holiday and do the bleep test. For fun. By choice. So I did it just to get the photographic evidence. The constant turning was hurting my knee though, so I gave it until level 10 and dropped out.
12 PM

Trail running 58:11 [3] 6.3 mi (9:14 / mi)

For some reason I waited until the heat of the day before going for a run. This was up a mini volcano, and was fun but it got a bit scrambly, and lava rock (basalt) is quite sharp. Very hot though. I think I got burnt.
2 PM

Cross training 30:00 [3]

Laurence and I went to a hula hoop fitness class. Laurence has spent plenty of time in the crèche at OO and Bubo and is very adept at hula. I am less so. They were doing things like hula-ing while jumping, and pirouetting, and balancing on one leg. And I spent 30 mins trying to make the damn thing not fall down. Then I went straight to an egg throwing competition with Lucy where I ended up covered in egg, and a ‘family’ boules competition where some very competitive Danish pensioners only just beat Lucy and I, and Lucy and I think they cheated. I was proud of her for resisting her natural instinct to thump them. Then the kids made me go in the freezing pool for 10 mins. Busy day.
