Orienteering - race 1:06:32 [3] 5.21 mi (12:46 / mi)

Birsemore SOL 1

I had already decided not to run - to get my map and shadow Emma. I had a knee-bash yesterday that hurt and was still bleeding, and I had bad guts from the night before so only got 2 hours sleep, and I wasn’t really in the mood for more Orienteering.

But Birsemore is on my top 5 areas, and the more I walked around the better my knee felt, and Lucy wanted to shadow Emma so I ought to at least go to the start and intend to run. So I jogged around the course, and it wasn’t too rough, hilly or tricky, so I finished and it was a lovely course in a great area.

waiting for route gadget from last night to work out where I went. Don’t think I am the only one.

Orienteering - race 15:54 [3] 2.26 mi (7:02 / mi)

Gramp sprint race

Lots of fun, fast and furious. Mistake at 17, just getting offline with the direction changes, otherwise good. Alas number 12 didn’t register. SIGH. Emitag things. The things on a bit of Velcro. The Orienteering system I have is left arm navigation (map and compass) right arm punching (descriptions and si dibber). Description holders are so long in comparison to arm length, that the only place to put the velcro thing was behind the descriptions. I could have checked that each punch worked, but it would have been a faff, so I didn’t bother, and they didn’t. Well at least I mispunched here, rather than tonight, or atthe JK. I think the hand is the best place for them in a sprint, not sure about tonight where I might need both hands free for rock climbing.

Edit - just looked at the results and notice that 14 didn’t work either. Double SIGH.

Orienteering - race 1:36:14 [3] 6.45 mi (14:55 / mi)

British nights. Failed to find a big track on the north route 6-7. I am prett my sure it was my fault, hitting the area at the wrong angle. It totally freaked me out. I had to change to the southern route and went in the right direction, but it was a good 1k if running into oblivion before I could relocate on anything. Was alone for the majority of it too. I got the heeby jeebies big time. Urgh!

This is where I got to:

I bonked really badly at the end. Probably should have taken some sugar with me. That would have probably stopped the freaking out too. There’s a limit to how bad life can be when you have a handful of jelly babies.

Off-road running 20:00 [3] 2.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Warm uppery and downery. Was really whacked at the end, but ran as I was feeling shitty so really wanted to get back to the van and meet my sis and cuddle my daughter, and get some tea and toast. Aaahhhh! That’s better.

My theory on Orienteering training is that a little bit is a bad thing. If you go Orienteering and haven’t done it for ages, you expect to get lost so focus more. I’f you've done lots of training you are good. Doing a little bit makes you cocky, which is disastrous. So I stayed on queens drive for tonight’s run despite carrying a map, cause I didn’t want to make myself cocky for the weekend, when I haven’t been night Orienteering for over a year. This was mainly just to check my head torch worked, and I could read a map with it on. It worked. Ready to go for Saturday night!

Craiglockhart from work. Stressed. Average heart rate 179! Didn’t realise stress affected it that much. Usual average is 130-140. Need to find a new job.
