Orienteering race (Rogaine) 1:55:00 [3] 13.9 km (8:16 / km)
shoes: LaSportiva Raptor

Rogaine went a lot better than the championships a week before. Reasonable planning (could have been better but that comes from experience - only my third rogaine) for my skill level meant I finished in plenty of time to do an urban loop. Had I not lost my timekeeping odometer in the woods, I could have added more high-point wood controls, but coming in 3rd in category and overall for points means I did a very good compromise of getting back to finish for time checking and figuring what I could do in the remaining time. Also, in the woods, bearings were true and only one mistake, quickly corrected. Now why couldn't I have done that well the week before...

Orienteering race 25:52 [4] 3.99 km (6:29 / km)
shoes: New Balance 860

Nothing like getting lost on a map of a campground I had gone on all weekend. Right off the bat too. Either I need new eyes or a new brain. Borking control 1 undermined all my confidence, so that going to #2 behind my cabin felt like completely unknown terrain. WTF, brain. Once we got in the forest, I was unable to adjust to the map scale (which I knew well) and made mistake after mistake after mistake. The only controls I did well on were those I had seen as spectator earlier. Entirely unnecessary mistakes. Nerves? Frustration? Pressure? who knows. Thoroughly unimpressed with myself. (Punchy details in splits)
