Moving Furniture 1:00:00 [3]

Helping the Lams move some large pieces of furniture from the old office to the new.

Jogging hills 33:24 [4] 3.22 mi (10:22 / mi) +80m 9:37 / mi
shoes: New Balance 860

Out Mannix with MI and MH. First two miles (which included the most uphill) were around 10:40 min/mile, after that less than 10 min/mile to bring it home. Nice winter day for a run, I'm legitimately sweaty and trying to cool off before changing.

Walking 24:08 [2] 1.56 mi (15:31 / mi) +16m 15:02 / mi

Bitter cold so we didn't do the running group. Bundled up and headed out for a walk, not too bad but the wind did a number on my face at times. Good pace (for keeping warm).

Snow Clearing 2:00:00 [3]

Snow clearing throughout the day. 2 hours is an estimate, probably on the low side. First taking care of the latest cover from Saturday night (and the crap at the end of the driveway - getting harder and harder to deal with that). Later chopping ice, and taking advantage of a warmer day to do some needed additional clearing and digging out, plus pulling down lots of snow and ice from the roof (and then having to chop, lift, and push that heavy stuff out of the driveway/walk again..)

Walking 30:01 [2] 1.84 mi (16:18 / mi) +20m 15:46 / mi

Very cold, but bundled up. I like being the only crazy one out there walking on a day like this.. :)

Jogging hills 35:45 [3] 3.23 mi (11:04 / mi) +83m 10:15 / mi
shoes: New Balance 860

Just 2 of us for running group today. Went out a little hard but overall a good moderate run (other than the massive hills). First time up the real killer hill on Mannix out past the crazy bend in the road and the creek. Something happened w/ my gps tracker, a bit of extra junk in the front of the run and a lot at the end, so I adjusted the time as I know we had a just over 11 minute per mile pace.

Stretching warm up/down 5:00 [1]

Some minimal post-run stretching.

Walking 21:20 [2] 1.24 mi (17:15 / mi) +17m 16:32 / mi

Wanted to make sure I got outside and got moving at least a little bit today. Work and home are so busy, this is about the best I could do (but glad I did it - it was nice).

Snow Clearing 45:00 [2]

Overall not too bad, just time consuming. The end of the driveway was a bit of a workout with some heavier compacted snow from the plow, and nowhere to put it. A fair bit of lifting, carrying, throwing.. good shoulder and back work I'm sure :) I'm pretty sure we have enough snow now, thanks.

Snowshoeing hills 26:47 [4] 0.9 mi (29:40 / mi) +13m 28:24 / mi

Wow, that wore me out. And on a seriously cold day, I was sweating by the end of this workout. Glad I made it out there, as our running group fell apart today due to cold and wind and everyone being busy with work. Including me, but I worked the whole day straight yesterday and needed to get outside for a while for my sanity. Glad I did.

Jogging hills 31:59 [4] 3.02 mi (10:35 / mi) +40m 10:10 / mi
shoes: New Balance 860

Running group (just two of us today). Set out to do a ~11 min/mile pace for ~3 miles, ended up going a bit faster but generally was fine. Got fairly winded on some of the hills but overall it wasn't bad. Coldish day but didn't feel bad at all, sun was nice. We went out (and up and over) Thompson Hill Road which was a nice change of pace, some extra looping in the Tech Park to stretch it out.

Stretching warm up/down 5:00 [1]

Bit of post-run stretching.

Snow Clearing 29:00 [3]

Round 2. Got up a bit early to clear out the overnight snow. Heavier stuff and a lot of lifting, trying to be careful about my back. Left shoulder/upper back area starting to get sore. And the snow is not done yet.. :(
9 AM

Snow Clearing 15:00 [3]

Mini session so I could get the car out to drop L off with the grandparents while T and I are working from home today. Big mess at the end of the driveway from the plow this time - hopefully the worst of that I'll be dealing with from this storm. Running out of places to put the snow!
12 PM

Snow Clearing 20:00 [3]

Plow went by again, snow still falling. Rinse, repeat.
8 PM

Snow Clearing 44:00 [4]

Round 5. Last one for this storm (except I probably need to get rid of the plow ridge at the end of the driveway that they put there overnight, when I get home from work). A lot of lifting at this point, and lots of heavier snow at the end of the driveway. Total shoveling time for this storm is approaching 2.5 hours.

Snow Clearing 33:00 [3]

Heavier stuff, higher snowbanks.. less fun. Just the first round with this storm.

Jogging 26:54 [3] 2.57 mi (10:28 / mi) +13m 10:19 / mi
shoes: New Balance 860

Running group. It was supposedly 10 degrees out w/ a windchill down to 1 degree, but didn't feel so bad once we got going. We stayed in the tech park again to avoid the poorly cleared Mannix Road. I was a bit sore from the previous day's snowshoe romp but overall a solid run, not too fast but felt plenty hard enough to me for a maintenance run. Steadily increasing pace over the course of the run.

Stretching warm up/down 8:00 [1]

Post-run stretching - nothing special.

Snowshoeing 20:59 [3] 0.7 mi (29:58 / mi) +12m 28:27 / mi

Wow - what a difference between the previous two times I strapped on the snowshoes. There's still at least a foot of snow out there since the big storm on Monday. I guess THAT'S what snowshoeing is supposed to feel like. Hard work but I enjoyed it. Definitely got me breathing heavily only a few minutes in, and the whole way through - and only covered .7 miles in 21 minutes. A bit of walk in open field, some through a brushy meadow with stickers poking through here and there, and a bit of wooded area. Some decent climbing and descent along the way. Hope I get a few more chances to get on the snowshoes this winter.

Jogging 32:57 [2] 2.8 mi (11:45 / mi) +44m 11:13 / mi
shoes: New Balance 860

Fairly easy pace today, just a small group of 3 with one of us being a fresh recruit to the running group. We basically just circled the two closest parking lots so the new guy could walk when he needed to and end early if needed. Plus the roads are still kind of a mess. Overall a good solid "get your work in" kind of run. Worth noting: still some up and down but no huge climbs, so next time we do intervals it might be worth sticking to the parking lots..

Stretching warm up/down 10:00 [1]

Post-run stretching, some outside some inside. Guessing at the time as usual.

Tuesday Feb 3, 2015 #

Note

No activity today. Had to run errands at lunch and no time/energy tonight. Feeling like I have a bit of a cold; runny nose has been coming and going the past two days but for the most part no real fatigue or feverishness, so hopefully it's something mild that will pass.

Snow Clearing 47:00 [3]

Working from home due to the snow, took a first pass at clearing some of it out after lunch. Glad I did, as my evening would have been a lot less pleasant if I hadn't. Mix of shovel and snow blower, but that old P.O.S. takes a lot of muscle to try to get it to do anything (not to mention get it to start..).
8 PM

Snow Clearing 51:00 [4]

Finishing up the snow removal. Couldn't get the snowblower to start this time, so all shoveled by hand. Snow banks were getting higher, so quite a bit of lifting. Back/shoulders seemed OK other than some soreness from pulling futilely on the starter cable of the snowblower 100 times.

Jogging 30:45 [4] 3.1 mi (9:55 / mi) +31m 9:37 / mi
shoes: New Balance 860

Just wanted to do my old 5k route at a steady pace, no intending to go out hard. But apparently got into a ~10 min/mile pace (which is fast for me right now) and was feeling good with it after a mile.. so just tried to maintain, and it was good. Not an easy run as I had intended but it wasn't too hard either. Probably between a 3 and 4 intensity as it's faster/longer than I've run in about a year.

Jogging warm up/down 4:00 [2]
shoes: New Balance 860

Cooldown: walk/slow jog plus 25 butt kicks and high knees and 10 x 2 side to sides.

Stretching warm up/down 8:00 [1]

Post-run stretching.
